Shadow of the Tomb Raider is going to be one of the first games to implement Ray Tracing technology . Nvidia announced during its announcement at Gamescom that there will be 21 games that will implement Ray Tracing (Nvidia RTX), among which is the new adventure of Lara Croft.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will have the new Nvidia RTX exclusive 'Ray Traced Shadows' effect

Crystal Dynamics showed a trailer focused solely on the graphic effects present in the PC version, among which is the ' Ray Traced Shadows', which will allow the game to accurately simulate area lights and a greater number of light points.

This feature will be enabled through Microsoft's DXR (DirectX Ray Tracing) API, which will be exclusive to DirectX 12, deepening Square Enix's support for the latest graphics APIs in the industry. This will also be a significant change for Nvidia, which was previously not known for its 'good' DirectX 12 compatibility, a relatively weak point for older Nvidia graphics architectures.

The trailer details the features that would be used in the PC version of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which include Ray Traced Shadows, HBAO +, High-Quality Anti-Aliasing, Tesselation, CHS (Contact hardening Shadows), HDR support, and SSCS.

It should be noted that Ray Traced Shadows will not be supported by Shadow of the Tomb Raider at the time of the game's launch, but will be added later with an update. The game will go on sale on September 14 on PC, almost a week before Nvidia's RTX series graphics cards are available for purchase.
