Sharkoon PureSteel RGB is one of the most complete yet affordable chassis the brand has for modding- oriented mounts and high-performance gaming PCs. It is a minimalist chassis and with a huge tempered glass window that lets you see all our hardware and its 4 addressable RGB fans. In this analysis we will know in depth everything that this economical and elegant steel chassis is capable of offering us.
First of all, we must thank Sharkoon for the transfer of the product and their trust in us to carry out this analysis.
Sharkoon PureSteel RGB technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
Sharkoon PureSteel RGB is a truly eye-catching chassis in both design and overall performance and price. The brand has done a good job, creating a very competitive chassis that can be placed at the entrance of the mid-range, very oriented to modding and gaming assemblies. To start the assembly, what we will have to do is remove the chassis from its large white cardboard box. In it we see a photo of the tower along with its main characteristics depending on the model in hand.
In this regard, we will have three different versions available: the version with black RGB fans, another in black with two normal fans, and a white version with two also normal fans.
Inside the cardboard box we will find a user guide to carry out a correct installation. In turn, inside the chassis itself comes a small box with all the screws that will be necessary for the installation of the components, in addition to a few clips. Finally we find a small speaker, a scheme for the interconnection of the microcontroller that manages the lighting and a Sharkoon sticker to place it on the chassis.
Sharkoon PureSteel RGB is a chassis that already comes very complete for the price it has and with interesting possibilities as we will see in our analysis. Its steel structure is not as thick as it happens in other chassis on the market, but it gives us enough security to practically introduce what we want. It measures 474 mm long, 210 mm wide and 475 mm high, and weighs 8.66 kg, making up a standard half-tower chassis.
On its left side we find a large 4mm thick tempered glass window that reveals absolutely everything inside. To remove the panel we will have to unscrew the screws on the back, since in this case we do not have hinges or anything similar. In addition, its glass is not as prone to reflection as in other models.
Both its front and side faces do not have too many secrets to show. It is two steel panels with a minimalist design at its end, especially the front which has absolutely nothing. On the right side panel we only find some honeycomb grilles to let the air pass, we must say that it is very well finished and does not offer sharp or dangerous edges, although it does not have a dust filter either.
In this front we will not have air inlets of any kind, so the installation of fans will be meaningless, in this case, this possibility has been moved to the side, although an internal sheet prevents proper air flow to the outside, something that we must take into account.
Let's now head over to the top of Sharkoon PureSteel RGB to find yet another completely smooth sheet steel and matte black finish. We also do not have air inlets, since the compartment for the installation of the power supply is located in this area.
But of course, we do have our I / O panel in mind that no chassis can be missing. In this case we will have it in the right lateral zone and it consists of the following elements of interaction:
- On / off button RGB lighting control button with 14 modes 2x USB 3.1 Gen1 ports 2x 3.5mm Jack connectors for audio output and mic input
In this case we do not have the presence of USB Type-C ports or two other extra USB 2.0 ports, but for basic connectivity we have enough.
We go to see the back, where we will find the entire access area to the panel of the motherboard and the expansion slots. The peculiarity in this case we have it in the upper area, since the power supply will be located in this area, instead of below.
We also have a ventilation hole that supports 120mm fans and we also have one with pre-installed RGB lighting. We also have 7 perfectly removable expansion slots with screws and die cuts to facilitate the passage of air. In addition, we have a side plate to secure the cards that we install. In general it is a narrow chassis, so we do not have extra space to install graphics cards in lateral mode.
Finally we go to the lower area, which is quite interesting. This is where we have the main air intake source for the Sharkoon PureSteel RGB chassis. A huge inlet protected by a removable, fine-grained dust filter. We can easily dismantle it by pulling it to the side.
Be careful because in this RGB model we will have 3 120mm fans pre-installed with addressable RGB LED lighting. We think that it is not a bad location for them if what we want is to put in fresh air, since convection will facilitate their entry naturally.
Interior and assembly
It is our obligation to provide all the useful information of the experience in the installation of a PC and of the maximum possible information about the possibilities of the chassis.
Well we certainly see a very careful interior in its details, even having rubber protections in the wiring ducts. The fact of having the power supply installation compartment in the upper area, will facilitate the management of hot air from it, since it will directly go out.
Instead, it is also a double-edged sword, because part of the hot air that is generated in the CPU and graphics card will go directly into the source, and this is not a positive thing since in sources that overheat, it could become harmful.
We appreciate the nice detail from Sharkoon by including a support for the graphics card in the form of a sticker on the side. We can modify this support in height and orientation, and even remove it if we wish. We recommend its use for especially large graphics cards that have a noticeable drop out due to the questionable quality of the heatsink and the backplate. Also of course to protect the integrity of the PCI-E slot.
We continue with a detailed view of the installation hole for the plate. Sharkoon PureSteel RGB will allow us to install practically any motherboard, including Mini ITX, Micro ATX, ATX, E-ATX, SSI CEB and SSI EEB for double socket boards.
We will also have guaranteed capacity for graphics cards up to 420 mm long, although it will be reduced to 300 mm if we place a fan or radiator on the side panel. Heatsinks of up to 160 mm, which are acceptable measures, although somewhat just for large high-end blocks.
The cooling we see that it comes very complete already from the factory, especially in the Sharkoon PureSteel RGB version, thanks to four 120 mm fans with addressable RGB lighting. But we will have even more space and possibilities also for liquid cooling.
Fan configuration:
- Rear: 1x 120mm Side: 2x 120mm (not recommended) Bottom: 3x 120mm
Liquid Cooling Configuration:
- Front: 120/140/240 mm Side: 240 mm Rear: 120 mm Bottom: 120/240/360 mm
The capacity is quite good, although we are missing in all places the possibility of installing 140 mm fans, so in this sense we will be limited. In our opinion, the lower area is the one with the highest clearance due to its good ventilation opening. The lateral zone is recommended for liquid AIOs, although the air passage is not the best.
The front area is also not a recommended option because the air has nowhere to go, although it is a good option to install the expansion tanks of custom refrigeration systems.
We now turn to the side area for wiring installation and management. We will have a space of about 20 or 25 mm available, enough for most cases. We do not have cable routers, although we do have interesting storage possibilities. We can install a power supply up to 295 mm long.
Sharkoon PureSteel RGB will allow us to install up to 5 2.5-inch SSD storage units. They will be located, two in the side area (facing the main compartment), two others behind the motherboard and one in the upper area of the PSU compartment. Then we can install up to 3 3.5-inch hard drives, two in the rack of the PSU compartment, and one in the side area facing the main area. From here each one will have to manage in the best way the available spaces and the units.
We have not forgotten the Sharkoon PureSteel RGB lighting system at all. The chassis has a microcontroller with the capacity to control the lighting of up to 8 fans, in case we add more units, for example with liquid cooling on the side. Although the maximum capacity of the chassis is raised to a maximum of 6.
The case is that this controller will only allow you to manage lighting, not rotation speed, but we have two possible configurations. The first consists of connecting the fans to the controller and using the I / O panel button to have up to 14 different lighting settings. The second is to connect the controller to the header of 3 or 4 RGB lighting pins on our motherboard to be synchronized with other compatible systems such as: Asus Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync and Gigabyte RGB Fusion.
Here we have a possible result with the complete PC installation, except storage units. The cable management is certainly improvable, although we have not used the available clips either, so your result may improve a lot.
What we do see is that we have plenty of space in the upper and lateral area to throw more cables and install units, so in a PC without too many components we should not have any problem.
The front area itself is really neat and clean with well routed cables and plenty of room for much more.
Final words and conclusion about Sharkoon PureSteel RGB
Sharkoon PureSteel RGB is a chassis that has left us very good sensations, the end result is really striking thanks to its four RGB fans that we can manage with a single button or through software from the main brands of motherboards. The finishes are very good and we will have three different versions available.
The cooling possibilities are good, although not outstanding, since we will have no way to install 140mm fans, for example. The lateral and front zone, although it allows liquid cooling installation, are not recommended places due to a bad air flow. The positive aspect is its lower part with a large capacity and also the four pre-installed fans.
We recommend our guide to the best PC cases on the market
Support for high-end components is good, capable of large graphics, albeit standard 160mm heatsinks. Likewise, we will have large space for SSD and HDD and capacity for all types of motherboards, making the available space quite large, despite being a half tower. Cable management itself can be improved, although at the level of practically all the towers that compete with it.
This Sharkoon PureSteel RGB will be available for a recommended price of 82.90 euros, the Black version for 62.90 and the White version for 67.90 euros. They are quite competitive prices, especially if we buy the fully ventilated version of the analysis.
