The market is full of mechanical keyboards so manufacturers do not have it easy when it comes to presenting a product that stands out from the crowd. Sharkoon is one of the youngest in the world of gaming peripherals and now surprises us with the Sharkoon Purewriter TKL, an advanced mechanical keyboard that is built in a very compact design thanks to the use of low-profile mechanical switches and keys as well. low profile.

First of all, we thank Sharkoon for the trust placed in ceding the product to us for analysis.

Sharkoon Purewriter TKL: technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

Sharkoon Purewriter TKL is offered in a completely black cardboard box on its front, the only thing that stands out is the brand logo in the upper left corner so we will have to look at the back to find something more striking. Already on the back of the box its main features are detailed in several languages, including Spanish. Also stands out its layout, USA in this case, and the type of switches used, we have the version with red mechanisms.

The Sharkoon Purewriter TKL is completely accommodated by a piece of cardboard that will prevent it from moving during transport to the end user's home. It is also covered by a plastic bag to avoid possible scratches on its surface. The keyboard is accompanied by the relevant documentation and two USB cables of different lengths.

Sharkoon Purewriter TKL is based on a detachable cable design that facilitates its transport, the manufacturer has included two cables of different lengths so that each user can place the one that most interests them according to the situation, so if we are using it with our laptop we can put the shortest cable and that excess wiring bother us as little as possible.

As we can see, the Sharkoon Purewriter TKL is a very compact mechanical keyboard with dimensions of 355 x 127 x 35 mm and a weight of only 501 grams. This has been possible thanks to its tenkeyless design in which the number block on the right is removed and its low-profile mechanisms that we will talk about below. The keyboard is built with a combination of plastic and metal, the first is the most abundant material, allowing a very light product.

Sharkoon Purewriter TKL bets on Kailh mechanical switches in several versions, the peculiar thing is that the low-profile version of the Chinese manufacturer has been mounted to be able to build a very low keyboard, something that its low-key keycaps with a height also help. 6.2 mm, much lower than usual. We have the version with the Kailh Red mechanisms that are characterized by being linear, these have an activation path of only 1.5 mm and an activation force of 45 grams. With these characteristics they are very fast mechanisms specially designed for video games. Its durability is 50 million keystrokes.

Each switche has a blue LED, all of them form the lighting system for this keyboard. Sharkoon continues to resist the use of RGB lights so it only works in blue, something that helps maintain a lower manufacturing cost and is more than enough for a good experience of use. It does include five different lighting profiles with various effects and 5 profiles for games so that we can choose the one that we like the most. The lighting can also be adjusted at various levels of intensity, the highest being one of the most powerful we have seen.

Sharkoon PureWriter TKL includes the most basic features of a gaming keyboard such as n-key rollover, anti-ghosting keys and a polling rate of 1, 000 Hz.

On its back we see the Micro-USB connector for the detachable cable, as we have said before, two units with a length of 150 cm and 50 cm are included.

Now we look at the back of the Sharkoon Purewriter TKL, there is nothing to highlight beyond the features two lifting legs to improve ergonomics.

This is how lighting is at maximum intensity:

Final words and conclusion about Sharkoon Purewriter TKL

Sharkoon Purewriter TKL is a new mechanical keyboard that manages to stand out among the rest of the options that the market offers us, whether for better or for worse, what each specific user is looking for will depend. Most striking is the use of Kailh's low-profile mechanisms, these Red push buttons are very fast with a trigger point of just 1.5mm and which is very close to the maximum travel they offer. This makes pressing the keys faster than normal and it will be very easy to push the key all the way down, at least initially until we get used to it. These characteristics make it an ideal keyboard for video games, an environment in which a very fast and precise keystroke is required.

For writing if we notice a somewhat strange feeling to be a mechanical keyboard, its short travel makes it feel like it is a chiclet-type keyboard although there are obvious differences when facing mechanical technology, this will make us need a period of adaptation longer than on other more conventional keyboards, at first the wrong keystrokes will be much more common than normal. We also highlight that these buttons are very quiet to be mechanical.

With all this we believe that the Sharkoon Purewriter TKL is an excellent alternative to get a mechanical keyboard, as long as we take into account its peculiar characteristics. It is for sale for an approximate price of 80 euros although for now we will have to import it from Germany.
