NVIDIA yesterday introduced its latest GeForce 397.31 WHQL drivers. The new drivers for NVIDIA graphics cards are ready for use in titles like BattleTech and Frostpunk, but they also support features like NVIDIA RTX and Vulkan 1.1.

GeForce 397.31 WHQL causes restarts on GTX 1060

Everything seemed to indicate that it would be one more controller, a routine update to have compatibility with the latest games on the market. However, numerous owners of the famous GTX 1060 card have reported in official NVIDIA forums that they have been unable to complete the installation of the 397.31 drivers. During installation, users were asked to reboot their systems to complete the process, but once they had done so, they were presented with the same screen over and over again, putting their systems in an endless reboot loop.

While NVIDIA investigates the error, GTX 1060 owners are advised to revert to an earlier version of the drivers as a workaround. The solution is to restart the affected system in safe mode and run Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove 397.31 drivers from the system. Users can then proceed to install the above 391.35 drivers which are not a problem.

It is possible that in a matter of days we have new drivers, now yes, stable for the GTX 10 series and earlier from GeForce. What is strange is that this error arose after the drivers have gone through their beta phase.
