SilverStone ECM23 is one of the most curious products that we have seen lately, it is an adapter to mount an M.2-2280 M-key SSD to one of the PCI Express 3.0 x 16 slots on the motherboard, thus increasing the possibilities when using these high-speed storage media.

New SilverStone ECM23 adapter

SilverStone ECM23 has a rather attractive design based on a game cartridge from the 1980s. Inside it has an M.2-2280 M-key slot with PCIe x4 cabling to fit an advanced NVMe SSD. This means that the rest of the SilverStone ECM23 lanes will not be used, and are only there to add retention as the riser does not have an additional card holder to hold it in place. The main PCB has no logic of its own apart from the link / activity LEDs for the four PCIe lanes.

This SilverStone ECM23 also acts as a heatsink for the installed SSD, as it includes a 40 gram aluminum block that will help lower its operating temperature. The heat on the other side is extracted from a copper mesh printed on the PCB, which supposedly transports it to the back, which has the aluminum back plate we mentioned earlier. This accessory has measures of 105 mm x 11 mm x 44 mm and a weight of 52 g, the company has not announced the sale price, although it will be most interesting for users who do not have M.2 ports and have any free PCI Express x16 slot.
