Despite the fact that it has lost popularity over time, Skype is still a widely used option to communicate with other people. Furthermore, it is of enormous importance within the Windows ecosystem. Now, the computer application is updated with various new features. Thanks to this new function, our communications will be given more privacy.

Skype will improve privacy with the Open Whisper System standard

The new feature coming to Skype is called private conversations. It is currently being tested in version 8.13.76.8 in the Insiders program. Therefore, it is expected that it will soon arrive at the application in a general way.

Greater privacy on Skype

Also, this private chat feature is cross-platform. So it will not only reach Windows 10. Users with iOS, Android, Mac or Linux will also be able to enjoy it. This function will allow us to have private conversations. Thanks to the Open Whisper System (OWS) standard. It is a system used in the Edward Snowden application.

In this way, conversations have end-to-end encryption. So the entire conversation will be encrypted in its entirety, from sender to receiver. The only thing necessary for this to happen is that both users have the latest version of Skype installed.

In private conversations the chat list will be hidden and we will not receive notifications from them. In addition, we will only be able to see the messages sent if we access the conversation from the device we use to send those messages. The feature is currently being tested so we hope it will be coming to Skype soon.
