The new Snapdragon 835 processor is on the lips of all the 'techies' for the performance improvements it will bring to the new high-end phones that will be presented this year, including the Samsung Galaxy S8. One of the aspects that has hardly been discussed, is the new X16 LTE modem that comes within this chip and that promises to greatly improve Internet connection speeds.

X16 LTE modem with speeds close to Gigabit per second

Qualcomm wanted to demonstrate the benefits of the new X16 LTE modem with a transfer speed test that can be achieved with this new embedded modem. As you can see from the test, the X16 LTE modem achieves download speeds close to Gigabit per second. We can also see that the upload speeds are at 120 MB / s, which is close to the 150 MB / s that Qualcomm promised when I presented the Snapdragon 835.

Snapdragon 835 is going to offer 20% more performance than previous Qualcomm processors and 25% more graphics performance with its Adreno 540 GPU. Energy efficiency is improved and with the new X16 LTE modem it now also enables faster Internet speeds.

It is known that one of the first high-end phones that will make use of these processors will be the Samsung Galaxy S8, with an exclusivity agreement that has left manufacturers such as LG or HTC without having them.

A good Internet speed is essential for a Smartphone, which facilitates the consumption of multimedia content in high resolution and to be able to stream (video calls) at a higher image quality.
