Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, has told a Eurogamer reporter that they have heard user feedback on the matter and are seeing many of the possibilities. Sony is confident that a solution will be reached that will be understood and accepted by its gaming community, while at the same time supporting their business.

Sony may wait for the situation to calm down before making the decision to allow cross-play and the use of player accounts from other platforms on its consoles or not, a decision that could dramatically change its video game business. The biggest controversy has been in blocking the Fortnite accounts of the players who have been using them on rival platforms, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, citing security reasons.

Sony is in a difficult position, it can say no, which would piss off gamers, or it can say yes, and that the PlayStation 4 opens in a way never seen before. None of the options likes Sony, so the company prefers to wait for the controversy to pass and for people to stop mentioning it.

Sony dominates the current generation with more than double the number of consoles sold compared to Xbox One, so its leadership does not seem to be in any danger.
