As ssd: benchmark for ssd is my ssd fast?
Table of contents:
Today we are going to talk about a specific benchmarking program for SSD memory units. It is a program with a simple interface that you probably understand very easily, so get ready to get to know AS SSD .
Index of contents
AS SSD
The first thing we will see is the section on Installation and use of the application.
Installation
Fortunately, the installation section is quite simple.
By downloading the program from any of its sources, you will download a compressed file. Inside you will have an executable file and a folder called en-US .
To start using it, we recommend you unzip both files and save them in the same folder.
When opening the executable, the program will start directly, since it does not need any type of installation.
The en-US folder theme is for AS SSD to start with the English language by default. If you only have the executable and you do without the other folder, the application will run in German.
Use
Then the usage issue is pretty straightforward. We will start by explaining the different options that we can see from top to bottom.
Running tests
Above all you will see:
- The memory unit selector. You will get both SSD and HDD memories. The size selector for the transferred file. We can select 1 GB, 3GB, 5 GB or 10 GB. A bar for personal notes. What we write here will be saved in the program files and in the screenshots.
Later, we will see the information and tests grid.
On the first line you will see information on the memory unit such as its model, capacity or drivers, followed by the read and write columns.
Below we can see the four tests divided into the two fields and are divided by:
- Sequential 4K Random 4K Random 64 Thread Access Time
Each test will have a box on the left and we can decide if we want it to be carried out or not.
At the end of the grid, we will see a score at the end of the tests. The results will be determined according to the time and the transfer speeds obtained.
Furthermore, the author has had the luxury of sharing the formula to determine the final score.
- Read result = Seq * 0.1 read rate + 4K read rate + 4K read rate - 64 threads. Write result = Seq * 0.1 write speed + 4K write speed + 4K write speed - 64 threads. Total score = Seq * 0.15 write rate + Seq * 0.1 read rate + 4K read rate * 2 + 4K write rate + 4K write rate - 64 threads + 4 read rate - 64 threads * 1.5.
To finish, you will have a Start button to start the tests we have selected, as well as an Abort button to stop the process if it has already started.
Slightly above these two buttons you will have two bars that will indicate how high we are in the process. The bottom bar is the test in its entirety and the top bar is how the current process is and how much time you have left to finish.
Extra tests
Although a little hidden, we also have some more evidence apart from these four.
In the Tools section we can display two small extra windows that will take us to the compression and copy tests.
The proof copy has practically the same format as the main page.
The difference is the tests, which focus on an .iso file, on the behavior of a common program and on the behavior of files in a video game.
Regarding the File and Edit options, we can only make a screenshot and a copy of the data, respectively.
On the other hand, in the compression test we will have a somewhat more complex interface. As you will see, it consists of a black background and it highlights that it shows us information in a graph over time.
Also, the read and write data will be displayed one after the other, so you will see a data creation process:
And a process of launching the tests:
And regarding the tests, this is all we have to show you.
Now we will go to the options section, which are somewhat concise in this application.
General options
The first category we have is File.
Here we can make three options (even if a drop-down arrow appears).
- Screenshot takes a screenshot of the AS SSD home page. Export will display a single option that will save the information in an.xml format file. Exit will close the program and the processes associated with it.
In the Edit section we can only copy the data we have on the main screen.
Unlike in other similar programs, pressing Ctrl + C with the AS SSD window active will do nothing. The data will be displayed in the following format:

Then we continue with View .
Here we will have two exclusive options, that is, choosing one will deactivate the other. Depending on which option we choose, the first and fourth tests on the main page will change and this is due to the unit of measurement chosen.
WE RECOMMEND YOU MSI and its prototype PCIe card for 2 M.2 SSDsRegarding the article, we hope that you have understood it easily and that you have learned something new. If you have any questions you can ask us in the comment box.
And now, tell us, what do you think of the overall design of AS SSD ? What would you change to improve the program? Share your ideas in the comment box.
