SteelSeries is a fairly popular brand in the peripheral world, and its headphones are no exception. The SteelSeries Artics 1 is a mid-range model ready to make us enjoy long games for hours on practically any platform.

Unboxing of SteelSeries Artics 1

First we will comment on the packaging. The SteelSeries Arctis 1 are presented to us in a box with white as the predominant color. On its cover we can see an image of the product accompanied by the logo and model. Additionally we see highlighted its compatibility with the main gaming platforms: PC, Switch, XBox and PS4.

As a detail in the upper area, a gold band appears in which the brand is promoted as the promoter of the best gaming headphones on the market.

On the sides, on the other hand, we are shown a list of the most acclaimed SteelSeries models on the right, while on the left is a small connectivity infographic as well as some technical specifications.

On the other hand, the reverse offers more generous documentation regarding the qualities of the SteelSeries Artics 1:

  • Multiplatform: designed for all current gaming platforms including PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, XBox One, Play Station, VR and mobile. Perfect for travel: With a lightweight, low-profile design, removable microphone and flip-down headphones, the Artics 1 is practical for both gaming and going outside. Steel reinforced supraural band: easily adjustable to adapt to all kinds of measures with great resistance. Discord Certified Microphone - The ClearCast microphone uses a bi-directional design for superior sound cancellation.

SteelSeries Artics Headset Design 1

The first thing that stands out about the SteelSeries Artics 1 is its lightness. Generally with high-end headphones we notice an additional weight that is inseparable from a robust design but here the structure is light, with a unique and fine supraural band and compact drivers.

The supraural band

The supraural band is of a unique format. Inside there is an internal steel sheet covered by the outer plastic, This has a smooth touch and is a black color with a slight shine.

On its upper face we do not see any decoration and it is on the back where we can see an area padded with memory foam. This foam is of little thickness and size but pleasant softness with an external covering that simulates the touch of the skin.

Continuing down the band the extension areas become appreciable. They are not visible marks to measure their levels but we can find nine points perceptible by slight grooves in the internal steel.

Also on both internal faces of the band we will find in relief the indications of L and R to assign the left and right earphones respectively.

The headphones

Continuing with the headphones, the same material shown in the supraural band continues to its outer structure while the central one is slightly softer black. In both we can see the SteelSeries logo stamped in white.

The flexibility that both headphones present is quite wide in the horizontal angle, reaching 90º. Instead vertically they are only about 20º approximately.

The padding and inner lining is made of memory foam covered in black fabric. Just above the drivers, a polygonal pattern of white lines is observable, protecting it against sweat and dirt.

This padding is fully removable for dry cleaning and even replace them if necessary, a detail that we find quite useful.

Also in the outer area of the left earphone we find the connection port 3.5 for the removable microphone along with two integrated control buttons. One of them is a volume regulator while the other is a quick button to mute the microphone.

The microphone

The SteelSeries Artics 1 microphone has a rigid plastic backing on the 3.5 jack while the rod is covered in black rubber. Its flexibility to handle it is very good, but it does not have a great capacity to maintain very forced positions.

The end of the receiver also consists of a small piece of matte black plastic with two openings to enable bidirectional noise cancellation. The external face offers a slight curvature that guides the microphone towards our lips.

The wire

The cable that presents the SteelSeries Artics 1 from the first moment is 150cm long, ending with a 3.5 mixed audio and micro jack. However this format is designed to connect it to the sound offered by our mobile devices or consoles. For PC and Mac, on the other hand, we have an extender with a dual connector that adds another 150cm to the cable, making it reach a generous three meters in length.

Both cables are covered in rubber and have great flexibility but less resistance than a braided coating could offer, which may not convince some users.

The cable socket with headphones has an additional reinforcement, although it is not removable.

Putting the SteelSeries Artics headphones to use 1

We have used SteelSeries Artics 1 for virtually any multimedia activity: playing, listening to music, and watching movies. The first factor we would like to talk about is your weight. At 286 grams, they may not be the lightest headphones we've tested, but the feel is very light. Ergonomically, the horizontal rotation and wide canopy for the drivers makes them very comfortable to use. The supraural band is wide laterally, so we have noticed a minimum pressure in the temples, a factor that can be quite annoying in many models of headphones.

We are aware that there are users who prefer leatherette liners instead of fabric, in fact we tend to be in favor of this trend ourselves, but something to positively value the fabric is that it will always perspire much more effectively. The passive sound cancellation provided by this padding is quite satisfactory despite not having a very high density, which is also responsible for its weight.

Ultimately speaking of sound quality, this is a 2.0 stereo that conveys a fairly balanced sound range roughly. The drivers' decibel and impedance range has demonstrated a tonal range in which the mids create a solid base, although we cannot expect from their bass the depth that we would experience with studio headphones.

In any case, the sharpness and sound positioning in games of first-person shooting games is very concrete, noting a substantial difference when we turn the camera towards or in the opposite direction of the effects. The transition from one earphone to another has a brief step through what we can consider the central zone, which quickly makes it easy to recognize which direction each sound comes from.

Something that we have also been able to appreciate is that the SteelSeries Artics 1 leave very little white background noise, a practically imperceptible tone and that in other cases can be much more annoying to the most demanding users.

Final words and conclusions about SteelSeries Artics 1

Considering its price range, the SteelSeries Artics 1 is a very good choice for those players who are not only looking for a headset to play with but also move around the world. The removable microphone and flip -down headphone design are a big plus for its portability. They also have a dual 3.5 jack extender that extends the total length of the combined cables to a generous three meters.

The most expert users will miss software for advanced configuration, but we must not forget the price range in which the SteelSeries Artics 1 moves. We are talking about a mid-range headphones that offer more than correct sound quality for their 59, € 99 price. We cannot expect extremely deep bass or scandal treble, but sharpness is guaranteed.

We recommend reading: Best gaming headphones.

Positive qualities are especially those of the microphone, which with its bidirectional sound cancellation reproduces our voice with remarkable clarity, being the Discord Quality Certificate a witness to this. We would have liked more if it retained the position and shape we decided to give it more solidly, although the rubber of the coating tends to make the latter a little difficult.

Broadly speaking we have found that the SteelSeries Artics 1 perform very well within its budget range and taking into account the versatile and transportable approach that the brand has wanted to give them. It is not just a model of headphones to sit at home, so those of you who are a bit of a globetrotter or use several consoles will make good use of them.
