Recently it has been leaked in a Chinese portal what could be the PCB of the GTX 1180 or 2080 of the new generation of NVIDIA. This is in addition to the higher-end PCB that was also leaked a few months ago.

The possible leaked PCB of the GTX 1180/2080 reveals some interesting facts

The leak of a PCB, that is, the printed circuit board where all the components of the graphics are soldered, may seem at first quite devoid of information about what the new generation of NVIDIA would be like, but it really brings us quite interesting data.

First of all it should be noted that due to the printed logo of NVIDIA we would be before the PCB of the reference model and not one modified by an assembler.

If we look at the upper right corner we can see that the new graph will have two power connectors, one with 6 pins (75W) and the other with 8 (150W). This contrasts with the GTX 1080's only 8-pin connector, which points to an increase in the energy consumption of its successor, something relatively unusual since similar or lower consumption is usually seen.

What is also true is that despite being prepared for two PCIe connectors, then make use of only one, so it will not be known yet if the consumption will be higher than 1080.

Other important aspects are the use of a 256-bit memory bus, where the configuration and quantity of the memory chips suggests 16 or 8GB of VRAM, the latter being the number used in the GTX 1080 that precedes it. The VRM would consist of 10 power phases and the graphics processor used would be the GV104.

Moving to the front of the PCB, the lack of space for the inclusion of a DVI-D connector stands out, so this reference graphic would lack such a connector. Otherwise, there is no information about the HDMI / DisplayPort settings that NVIDIA will use.

To finish, the last point of interest is the possible replacement of the SLI system by the so-called NVLink that is already used in some professional Tesla and Quadro graphics, something that we know due to the change of the connection for SLI bridges by one used by NVLink bridges.

Are we facing a legitimate leak?

The truth is that a good part of the rumors that appear about new generations of CPUs or GPUs end up not being fulfilled, either due to a deliberate falsification or simply due to a change of direction of whoever is developing the leaked technology. So the question that comes to mind is… Is this leak real or not? Obviously nothing can be 100% confirmed until these graphics cards are presented, but the level of detail in these photographs suggests that it would not be a false leak.

An example of a leaked PCB that turned out to be true is the one that was published on our website in October 2016, of the GTX 1050 Ti. In the first photo you can see the leaked PCB, and in the second photo the real PCB of a custom graphic analyzed here a couple of months later, practically identical. So, let's remain that these are rumors that, although they do not seem false, we will not know their veracity until the presentation of the GPU.
