If you are looking to take your RAM memories to a new level of customization, Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus is just what you are looking for. This DDR memory bank lighting kit provides four addressable RGB LED lighting strips to our memories. In addition, we can customize it with the TT RGB Plus software or synchronize them with the systems of our motherboard or Razer Chroma.

First of all, we must thank Thermaltake for the assignment of this product and for their trust in us for making this analysis.

Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus technical features

Unboxing and design

We start as always by describing how the product will get us home, a Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus unique in its kind. In this case, it is presented to us in the best possible way, with a small flexible cardboard box with a color drawing, making it clear what this small intelligent device is capable of.

Both in the front and rear areas we are informed of the compatibility with other lighting systems. In addition, it includes basic information about the product and a few photos of what the different lighting configurations could be.

The box is tiny, but comes packed with accessories for connecting the lighting kit. It is worth mentioning the code names of each of these elements:

  • Lighting Kit Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus SYNC Thermaltake Microcontroller 9-pin USB 2.0 Cable to Mini USB (C): Connects USB from motherboard to microcontroller Mini USB Bridge Cable (D): Connects two lighting control devices TT. MOLEX Cable from Power (E): connect microcontroller to PSU current 4-pin cable (F): Connect the Lighting Kit with the microcontroller 2x RGB header cables (G) and (H): Directly connect the lighting kit with the RGB header Addressable motherboard glue band for DIMM English installation guide

We see then that we have an infinity of cables that at first may seem all the same to us, but nothing is further from reality. We will see what each one is for.

The lighting element consists of a block that acts as a cover for DDR-type DIMM memories, that is, this Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus is compatible with all types of DDR memories, provided they have a configuration in four banks. Its construction is based on a plastic block with four lighting strips in the upper area that will support memory modules up to 40 mm high, this is something very important and must be known before buying it.

This band features 36 addressable LEDs representing up to 16.8 million colors (24-bit). Each and every one of them can be customized independently in color thanks to the TT RGB Plus software that we will see later. But if we have a motherboard with addressable RGB headers, we can directly connect it to it so that it is synchronized with the available lighting.

This means that Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus is compatible with Asus Aura Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, AsRock Polychrome RGB and MSI Mystic Light systems. But we can also synchronize it with the Synapse 3 software and the Razer Chroma system as long as we have Synapse installed with a Razer device and the TT RGB Plus software.

For the Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus placement in the memory banks, we will first have to place the border on the right side of the previous image in the upper area of the memory bank. Next, we will open the tab on the left side and dock it on the inside of the memory bank. In this way the edges of the DIMM sockets will fix the system to the memories, it is an extremely simple and very intuitive system.

Install Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus on PC

The most delicate part of the process begins with the installation of the kit wiring to our motherboard in order to generate the light and also be able to communicate it with the operating system. In the instructions that we have available it is quite well explained through a few steps.

Everything is based on this small square artifact called SYNC and it will be in charge of translating the software instructions into our lighting. But according to the cases it will not be necessary to use it.

If we have a compatible board

We have previously said that Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus is compatible with all major board manufacturers. If we have one of them, what we will have to do is look in the data sheet of the board if it has a four-pin addressable RGB header (three effective)

If you have, we will directly connect the cable (G) to the lighting bank connector and then to that header. In the case of Gigabyte boards, we will use cable (H) instead of (G). Directly the lighting will be synchronized with what we have selected on our motherboard.

If we don't have a compatible board

Then we will make use of the rest of the cables that it brings and SYNC. We must always make sure that there is a free 9-pin USB 2.0 connector on our motherboard, it will be one of the ones we always use to connect the USB chassis to the board.

We are going to take the cable (F) and we are going to connect the lighting bank with one of the SYNC ports that we see in the previous image. Then we must put the microcontroller switches to "ON".

Now we are going to take the cable (C) and we are going to connect it from the board's USB to the SYNC mini USB that appears in the image above.

Finally we are going to take the cable (E) and we are going to connect it to a MOLEX cable from the power supply and then to the connector in the previous image. Done, the system is mounted, it is time to start the computer.

The final result would be as we see, with the cables perfectly hidden and the lighting bank covering the DIMM modules

Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus gives us a spectacular result, and without the need to buy RGB memories or anything like that.

TT RGB Plus software and customization

Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus is a lighting kit that we can manage in an advanced way from the TT RGB Plus software. We say in an advanced way, because if we connect it to a compatible board or synchronize it with Razer Chroma, we will not be able to customize the animations of the bank, it will only take the same profile that we have configured in the software of the motherboard or Synapse 3.

That said, we will only have to install the software and start it. In one of the three lighting profiles that appear on the main screen, we will take one of them and select from the " R1 Plus " list, this will be our lighting kit.

Now we will have a total of 5 independent lighting profiles to configure and no less than 20 different animations and functions for the lighting of the Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus, providing us with spectacular results in each of them. In addition, we can independently take each of the LEDs and place the color we want on them.

Or if we prefer, we can go to the top right configuration wheel and choose the synchronization option with Razer Chroma. The positive of this option is that in compatible games like DOOM 4, we will have intelligent lighting management, and our Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus kit will be synchronized with the game.

TT RGB Plus will also be available for iOS and Android, although we will not be able to manage Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus with it at the time we do this analysis. Consequently, we will not be able to do it with Amazon Alexa for now.

Final words and conclusion about Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus

As of today, this Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus has few rivals on the market to say the least. It is a special lighting kit for RAM memories with a very simple design to install and with phenomenal results, and at the level of what the new RGB RAM memories offer.

The connection system is quite simple once we understand the steps well. The key is to identify well the cables and connectors on our board. Something very positive is the fact that it is compatible with the main lighting systems of the motherboard manufacturers, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte and ASRock. Also, it can be synced with Razer Chroma.

Here's our guide to the best RAM memory on the market

The configuration and animation possibilities are very varied and we can independently manage each of the RGB LEDs that make up the system. Being able to monitor CPU temperatures or synchronize it with audio or games. While it is true that the customization detail is still not at the level of Razer nor the TT RGB Plus Software is too refined in terms of presentation.

If you are interested in this Thermaltake Pacific R1 Plus, we will have it available for a price of 59.99 euros in the main stores. It may not be as affordable as you would expect, although it is true that its possibilities are quite great in terms of compatibility and lighting quality, it also has practically no competition.
