The gamers are the users who take the most care of the peripherals of their computers at the time of their choice and it is not surprising for their great importance. The keyboard is undoubtedly one of the most important, having a good quality unit and excellent performance can make the difference between victory and defeat. ThunderX3 knows the needs of the most gamers very well and for this reason it offers us its magnificent ThunderX3 TK50 mechanical keyboard with features at the height of the best but at a much more competitive price than that offered by most other brands.

First of all we thank Thunder X3 for giving us the TK50 for analysis.

ThunderX3 TK50 technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The ThunderX3 TK50 comes to us in a very attractive presentation led by a box of quite contained dimensions for this type of product, we see that in its design in which the corporate colors of the brand predominate, among which black and orange stand out. On the front we see an image of the keyboard as well as the layout it presents, this time we find a distribution of Spanish keys, we thank the brand that has given us the exact same product that most of our readers will be able to buy.

In the back, all the characteristics of the keyboard are detailed, among which we find a removable wrist rest, a maximum quality design with an aluminum upper part and a list of the different mechanical switches in which this keyboard is available. This time we have the unit with Outemu Blue mechanisms that are characterized by providing both tactile and sound feedback to the user, therefore they are not the quietest among the entire repertoire offered.

Something that we miss is a window that allows us to test the buttons before going through the box, a detail that we will understand perfectly since when we open the box we find another box inside in white, this being the one that really houses the keyboard in its inside. All a detail of the great care that the brand has put in the product for its maximum protection and that it reaches the least of the user in the best possible way.

We also found a palm rest that we can put on and take off the keyboard as it is easier to use it with or without it, personally I think that this decision is a wise one because it adapts to the demands of all users and the use of the keyboard is not forced with or without the piece.

It is time to focus our eyes on the keyboard, the ThunderX3 TK50 is a fairly compact unit with dimensions of 195 x 442 x 37 mm and a weight of only 1, 000 grams. A light design that makes this keyboard a unit with a very similar weight and even less than many models with membrane mechanisms that are clearly considered inferior to mechanical ones.

As for the mechanical switches, these are the aforementioned Outemu Blue, mechanisms that have the peculiarity of being made up of two elements and that allow them to have both a tactile and a sound response when pressed by the user. These mechanisms have an activation stroke of 2 mm and a maximum stroke of 4 mm with an activation force of 55 grams. The fact of having two parts makes their pulsation very comfortable since they are very soft mechanisms in the first half of their journey while in the second part they become harder.

The Outemu Blue are especially indicated for users who need to write large amounts of text in their day-to-day tasks, thanks to their special touch the fatigue in the fingers and wrists will be less than that produced by other mechanisms so we will be with more energy at the end of the day. They are also good mechanisms for gamers although we will need a period of adaptation to their peculiar touch, especially if we come from a membrane keyboard.

We continue with the characteristics of the keyboard itself and we find an ultrapolling of 1000 Hz and Anti-Ghosting technology with 26 n-Key Rollover (NKRO), this means that the keyboard is capable of detecting the simultaneous pressing of up to 26 keys without reaching to collapse. We also found a total of 12 multimedia keys to access the most common controls in a very comfortable way. Finally we highlight the presence of the gaming mode that will prevent us from accidentally pressing the Windows key.

In the back we find two folding plastic legs that allow us to slightly lift the keyboard for greater comfort of use if the user considers it appropriate. We also find a small anchor that will serve to join the piece that makes up the palm rest, something that we will do in a very simple way and with little effort.

The ThunderX3 TK50 presents a blue backlight system that we can regulate in intensity and light effects to better adapt it to our preferences, we have a total of 12 light effects among which we highlight some as popular as static lighting, wave effect, breathing, sweep and several more. Best of all, the lighting is controlled without the need for any special software so we can manage it in the most comfortable way possible using key combinations:

  • Fn + F12: Change light effect Fn + down arrow: decrease light intensity Fn + up arrow: increase light intensity Fn + up arrow: increase light intensity

Final words and conclusion

Many of us are users who spend much of the day in front of a computer, whether for work, leisure or study. The most important peripherals, mouse and keyboard, are often the most neglected by regular computer users, many times spending a lot of money on a tower and skimping on something to be used every time you interact in any way with the team.

The ThunderX3 TK50 is a mechanical keyboard that offers us a solution of high performance and the best quality at a very competitive price for what we are used to seeing in this type of keyboard. Let's not forget that it has high quality switches and with excellent operation, we also highlight ultrapolling technologies of 1000 Hz and 26 n-Key Rollover (NKRO) for flawless operation.

To test its performance we have used the usual working environment (office automation, graphic design and video and programming), the performance there is very nice. If these Outemu Blue switches are quite peculiar and you need a few hours to get used to them. Currently, there is a lot of competition between mechanical keyboards to play . But without a doubt the ThunderX3 TK50 is one of the best on the market and on top of that it does so with an irresistible price.

The ThunderX3 TK50 is for sale for an approximate price of 80 euros in its different versions of mechanical switches.
