One of the news that was expected with greater interest in this first day of Google I / O 2019 was the new beta of Android Q. This is the third beta of the operating system, which leaves us with a series of new features. In addition, this beta is going to be released to more devices than ever, more than 20 in total, as confirmed at the event. Many brands will have access to it, models from Xiaomi, Nokia, Google and many others.

All the news of Android Q in its third beta

They have presented us and the main news that arrive in it. Some of them were expected or had been previously leaked. What can we expect?

Dark mode

One of the changes that was eagerly awaited is now official. Android Q is going to introduce dark mode officially in the interface. Until now, there was no dark mode as such in the operating system, which is already official, as you can see in the video. A good way to save energy on the phone screen at all times.

It will turn on automatically when power saving mode is activated on the phone, as confirmed by Google in the presentation.

New gestures

Google is taking the gestures with increasing seriousness, as can be seen with each new version of the operating system. Therefore, in this new beta we can see new gestures. The way they work today is modified. In this sense, it is more committed to the visual element that we have already seen in the Pixels. The new gestures are:

  • Swiping up: go to the central desktop Swipe to the side: switch between applications Swipe up on the home screen: open the app drawer Swipe up and hold: open multitasking Swipe from the side of the screen: back

Folding screens

Folding screens are here to stay. For this reason, the operating system also has to be adapted, as we can see in Android Q. Months ago it was known that Google and Samsung were collaborating in this regard, so this is an extension of this collaboration, which reaches the operating system in its entirety. In this way we will be able to use an app on an external screen or with half the screen folded. When deploying the phone normally we will use it again.

Smart Reply

Gmail has automatic responses, which are a very useful function in the app. This is something that expands with this beta of Android Q, which now brings this function to the notifications in the system, which will undoubtedly give many more possibilities to users in the operating system. We can respond depending on the context in a simple way.

Focus mode

Focus Mode is a function that will allow us to eliminate some notifications for a certain time. We can choose from which applications we want to remove these notifications and set the time that we will not use them. A kind of way not to disturb, but more complete.

The new beta of Android Q will be launched in the coming hours officially on phones. In this case, it is expected that more than 20 devices will have access to it.
