In iOS 12, Apple has introduced a whole set of new features and functions in regards to Notifications that facilitate and speed up the monitoring and administration of them, giving it a much more intuitive touch. Generally speaking, there have been no substantial changes in the way notifications work, but rather in how they are managed, as these features make it easy to remove notifications, determine which notifications you want, and make adjustments on the fly. Let's see all these news.

The “new” Notifications for iOS 12

Grouped notifications

For years, iPhone and iPad users have been asking for grouped notifications, but as we already know that the company has its own particular rhythm, it is now, with iOS 12, when this feature finally arrives. Thus, from now on, multiple notifications from the same application (for example, WhatsApp, will be grouped on the iPhone lock screen, thus reducing clutter. If you touch the set of notifications of a particular application they will expand and you will see all, as before, in a list, but without mixing with notifications from other apps.

You can tap the "X" next to a group of notifications to clear all those notifications at the same time, or slide the group to the left.

In the Settings app, you can change the behavior of grouped notifications. Follow the Settings → Notifications path and tap on any app to view grouped notification preferences. Tap there and you can choose between three options: "Automatic", "By application" or "Disabled".

With automatic settings enabled, you may get two groups of notifications if you have email threads with two different people in the Mail app, or multiple conversations in Messages, for example. If you choose the option "By application", you will make sure that all the notifications of an application are in the same stack, without that classification that uses the automatic mode.

Instantaneous adjustment

Instant setting is a feature that allows you to manage an annoying notification directly on the lock screen, giving you the tools to completely disable notifications from that app or send those notifications directly to the Notification Center.

On any notification that is on the lock screen or in the Notification Center, swipe left on a notification and you will be able to access the settings that include "Manage", "View" and "Delete all".

Select "Manage" from this list to see the Automatic or Instant Adjustment options. You will be able to silence these notifications (" Silently notify ") that will be visible in the Notification Center, but you will not see them on the lock screen of your iPhone. If you want to revert this setting, tap on a muted app notification again, follow the same instructions and choose " Visibly notify ". Notification settings can also be changed in the Settings app. And if you choose "Deactivate", as its name suggests, you completely deactivate the notifications of that application.

You can also access the management of instant settings using the 3D Touch feature or long-pressing any notification and selecting the options you want.

In addition, iOS 12 will send you alerts asking if you want to continue receiving notifications from a specific application if you have received many notifications and have not been interacting with them. When this happens, the alert will have a "Management" section so you can access the settings of the instant settings for that particular application.

I am sure you are finding these new ways of managing “old” notifications really interesting. However, this is not all, we still have a few new features that you will like as much, or more, than you are. But we'll see that next time, so don't forget to stop by Professional Review and enjoy the weekend.
