Toshiba today announced that Supermicro has successfully rated the MG07ACA Series 14TB and 12TB HDD SATA models on select Supermicro storage server platforms. Helium-sealed 14TB hard drives begin to arrive on Supermicro servers

Increasing mechanical hard drives are beginning to standardize and reaching servers first, then make the leap towards the common consumer with prices that are not so prohibitive, this news seems to be, without a doubt, positive.

The industry-leading 14 TB hard drive capacity of the MG07 series allows data center customers to choose from the storage server platform solutions available through Supermicro's extensive network of resellers, as well as of system integrators.

“As we continue to develop solutions to meet the growing capacity needs of businesses and cloud data center customers, Toshiba is pleased to work with Supermicro on solutions that use our new helium-sealed series hard drive. MG07ACA. Toshiba's innovative and efficient 9-disk design offers the largest capacity available on the market today through conventional magnetic recording and is perfectly suited to Supermicro's prestigious range of servers and storage solutions . ” This is what Shuji Takaoka - Managing Director of the Storage Products Sales and Marketing Division of Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation says.

The MG07ACA series includes 9-disc (or platter) 14TB and 8-disc 12TB models. The 3.5-inch helium-sealed mechanical design allows for a higher storage density and lower operating power profile, achieving a 40% increase in maximum capacity and 50% energy efficiency (W / GB) on 10TB hard drive models.

14TB hard drives and SATA MG07ACA Series 12TB drives are available to order today as disk options for select models of Supermicro SuperStorage (SSG) servers.
