Toshiba Introduces 10TB Disc For Video Surveillance; supports 64 cameras
Table of contents:
Toshiba has announced its third generation SV series hard drives, designed for always-on video surveillance applications. This new hard drive can record videos from 64 HD cameras simultaneously, offer up to 10TB of capacity and offers a significant increase in the performance metric per dollar compared to its direct predecessors due to increased rotor speed and area density.
Toshiba MD06ACA-V comes in 6TB, 8TB and 10TB capacities
The Toshiba MD06ACA-V includes models with 6TB, 8TB and 10TB capacities, all with a speed of 7200 RPM, a 256MB cache buffer and a 6Gbps SATA interface. The SV series hard drives are intended for various video surveillance applications (SDVR, SNVR, Hybrid SDVR) and therefore support a number of specific enhancements such as ATA streaming technology and the ability to record data from up to 64 HD cameras at the same time. Surveillance hard drives have to power up quickly when idle and resume work, which these units incredibly support.
When it comes to actual performance, Toshiba's MD06ACA-V drives resemble their business-grade colleagues with a maximum sustained transfer rate of 240-249 MB / s, which is natural since the drives use the same PMR drives. Meanwhile, the power consumption of SV hard drives varies between 7.88 W and 9.48 W, depending on the model.
Currently, the Toshiba MD06ACA-V is the fastest hard drive for surveillance applications in the industry, this at the cost of consuming more power than some other very famous models, such as the Seagate SkyHawk / SkyHawk AI and WD Purple.
