CC Wei, CEO of TSMC, has made some remarks to end rumors of alleged problems related to the company's 7nm manufacturing process, which has already entered the mass production phase. Wei says that everything is going according to plan, and that they are already thinking about 5nm for next year.

TSMC is increasing 7nm production capacity rapidly, from 10.5 million wafers in 2017 to 12 million wafers this year 2018. The company plans to record more than 50 chip designs in 2018, most of them focused on artificial intelligence, GPU and crypto applications, followed by 5G and application processors. Among TSMC's main partners for the use of its 7nm process are clients such as Apple, AMD, Bitmain, Nvidia and Qualcomm.

Production of the first 5-nanometer chips will begin next year 2019, although mass production will not take place until the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020. TSMC will invest 25 billion dollars in its new production facilities for this future node.
