Tsmc could be preparing x86 a16nm processors for amd
A few days ago we told you that Samsung could be in charge of manufacturing the new processors with AMD's Zen microarchitecture, now a new rumor arises that TSMC is already preparing x86 processors for AMD with a 16nm FinFET process.
According to Bitsandchips TSMC is preparing the production of x86 processors at 16nm FinFET for AMD but it will not be until mid-2016 when it begins its mass production. There is no more information on which processors would be manufactured by TSMC so it could be future Opteron for Excavator or Zen microarchitecture servers and processors for home use.
About excavator it is known so far that they should arrive in 2015 with Carrizo APUs and that they would be manufactured with the same 28nm process used in Kaveri, all this has not been confirmed or denied by AMD. The only 20nm products expected from AMD at 20nm are the future GPU Pirate Islands so on x86 processors they should go directly from 28 to 16nm.
