Playing on an OLED TV can be an impressive experience, but can be hampered by typical tearing or input-lag issues when using V-Sync. To combat these issues, LG announced earlier this year that it was going to support Nvidia's G-Sync on its LG OLED TVs, and now the time has come to make this happen.
LG OLED TVs will receive support for G-Sync from Nvidia
Starting this week, a firmware update will be sent to LG OLED TVs to allow G-Sync support. It will be available in E9 (65 and 55-inch), C9 (77, 65 and 55-inch) and B9 (65 and 55-inch) models this year. LG says the firmware will arrive in North America first before users in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East are rolled out later this year.
G-Sync support should make games look smoother, with reduced response times for a much more satisfying gaming experience.
To take advantage of the G-Sync function, we will need a PC with an Nvidia GeForce RTX or GeForce GTX 16 Series graphics card. NVIDIA will launch a new GeForce Game Ready controller to allow the connection of compatible LG televisions to PCs with the selected cards via HDMI. The union of both should allow a refresh rate of 144 Hz in 1080p and 120 Hz in 1440p for a smooth and fast gaming experience.
