Twitter changes rules to combat porn and other online abuse

Still on the crusade to clean up its image of inappropriate content, Twitter recently changed its rules to prevent users from spreading 'things like porn'. The movement goes against other actions already implemented by the social network to combat this type of behavior, such as facilitating the withdrawal process. Other abuses of personal data will also not be tolerated.

Revenge porn, a term that has become famous, is when a person posts intimate third-party content - usually involving nude photos - without authorization and with the aim of humiliating their victims. The practice was, in theory, prohibited by the old rules, disclosing other people's private information, including documents.

However, the new text refers to porn revenge specifically:

"Private information: You may not publish or disseminate private or confidential information to others, such as credit card numbers, addresses, or Social Security / RG numbers without the person's express permission and consent."

"You cannot publish photos or videos that have been manufactured or distributed without the consent of the person who appears in them."

According to Twitter, it will examine all complaints made in a context account. For the social network, if the material was already available on the Internet through other sources, it is likely that they will not consider a violation.

If a complaint has been made about content that is in the microblog, the user will have to demonstrate that he has the person's consent to publish it and his account will be blocked until then.

The action is an extension of the policy to fight trolls. In recent months, Twitter has taken steps to identify and remove inappropriate content from the social network, facilitating the process of terminating offensive messages creating difficulties for prohibited users to create new accounts.
