Ubuntu 16.04 lts (xenial xerus) is already in the final phase

The release of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system is imminent, and now Canonical has announced that this GNU / Linux distribution has entered a freezing phase.

This week, Adam Conrad announced that the “Final Freeze” development phase is already in effect for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, so no new features will be added to the upcoming operating system, nor will any other major changes occur until its official release, scheduled for next April 21.

Unless some really major glitches emerge, Ubuntu version 16.04 will remain as is until next week, Conrad said.

"As of now, Xenial has entered the freeze period as we prepare for the final release of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS scheduled for next week, " said Conrad.

Adding that any features or proposals submitted at this time will remain in the queue until they are reviewed by the developers, who will decide whether to reject or accept them for future maintenance releases of the operating system.

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Release Candidate images will soon be available for testing

Nicknamed Xenial Xerus by Mark Shuttleworth, Ubuntu 16.04 LT will launch in less than a week with a multitude of new functions, among which we can mention the Linux kernel 4.4 LTS, the support to install Snap packages along with Debian packages, the possibility of moving the Unity Launcher at the bottom of the screen and much more.

This week, you will be able to help test the Release Candidate images of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and for this you will need to regularly visit the testing platform (or testing tracker) until the RC ISOs appear.
