Ubuntu is probably the Linux distribution that has more users and also a large number of alternative versions. One of those alternate versions to official Ubuntu was Ubuntu Budgie, which will now become an official distro of the 'Ubuntu Flavor' family .

Ubuntu Budgie will be an official flavor from 2017

Currently there are a large number of Ubuntu distributions, such as Lubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Mate, etc. Budgie was another of the alternatives but independent, it did not depend directly on Canonical, something that changed from the year 2017.

Canonical announced that Budgie will belong to the official Ubuntu family of flavors starting in 2017. This means that the different versions of Budgie will be officially distributed from the Canonical page with their corresponding daily builds and beta phases, that is, greater support.

Ubuntu Budgie has stood out from the beginning for its simple and fluid interface, perhaps one of the most graphically attractive of all that exists for Ubuntu at this time. The distro is made from the benefits of GNOME and boasts a lower resource consumption than the official Ubuntu, which makes it ideal for older computers.

The first official version of Ubuntu Budgie with the official libraries and repositories is expected to arrive from April 2017, the distro will be called Ubuntu Budgie 17.04 from that moment.

Meanwhile you can download and test this distro by downloading the ISOs from its official website, there are also bootable versions to use Budgie from a USB without installing anything.
