AMD may be putting the finishing touches on its new generation of embedded SoCs codenamed "Cato. " The chips appeared in the UL Benchmark s (Futuremark) SystemInfo screenshots, in three models: RX-8125, RX-8120, and A9-9820.

AMD RX-8125, RX-8120 and A9-9820 codenamed 'Cato' appear in UL Benchmarks

For the uninitiated, the RX series embedded processors are part of the company's Ryzen Embedded family. The RX series differs from the A series in microarchitecture, lack of unlocked multiplier, or other features such as integrated graphics.

At the moment, the origin of these "Cato" processors is a mystery. Reading SystemInfo tells us about 8 logical processors, which could be a case of a 4 core / 8 thread CPU configuration with SMT enabled. Another theory considers that it is a new silicon, based on a new IP, and 8 cores.

Moving on to the chips themselves, an RX-8125 with “8 logic processors” and a nominal clock frequency of 2.30 GHz is mentioned, and its boost frequency is approximately 2.40 GHz. The RX-8120 comes with A similar CPU configuration, but with significantly lower clock speeds, 1.70 GHz core and 1.80 GHz boost. Finally, there is the A9-9820, which is a complete APU with an integrated "Radeon RX 350" graphics. What gives this chip a Series A mark is probably the lack of an unlocked multiplier.

The presence of these processors in UL Benchmarks marks that their announcement could happen in the coming months.
