Intel has finally released the long-awaited Coffee Lake processors that we have been anticipating for long months. We have been able to do an extensive analysis of the i7 8700K in our laboratories and we can say that the wait was worth it. Meanwhile, the German site CaseKing.de along with the pro-overclocker Der8auer have released a surprising line of custom Intel Core i7 8700K processors to achieve higher speeds than the normal version.
German site sells several custom i7 8700Ks
A German site is already starting to sell different custom versions of the i7 8700K that not only comes overclocked from the factory, it also has a custom IHS to better dissipate temperatures.
In total, three models of the Intel Core i7 8700K are being offered:
- Advanced Edition: Pre-overclocked, but without custom IHS (stock speed 4.8GHz - OC 5.1GHz). Pro Edition: Pre-overclocked with polished IHS (stock speed 4.8GHz - OC 5.1GHz). Ultra Edition: Pre-overclocked with custom silver IHS and liquid metal TIM (speed up to 5.2GHz).
As we can see, the cheapest version is the Advanced Edition of 4.8GHz, which costs in the store about 439 euros. The most expensive version is the Ultra Edition reaching 5.2GHz with the personalized IHS, it costs 869 euros.
This is not a very common practice, but we imagine that it could become popular in the future if it is successful. Just as there are custom graphics cards from different companies, will we see different companies dedicating themselves to custom processors? What do you think?
