Vernee m5 review in Spanish (full analysis)

This time we have to analyze the Vernee M5. Manufactured, as its name indicates, by the not so well-known Chinese brand Vernee. We find a model that attracts at first sight for having a striking design and a very attractive price, close to € 100.

We thank Tomtop for trusting the product for their analysis:

Unboxing

In a similar way to Doogee, the Vernee company chooses to use a minimalist but white box instead of black. Inside we find the usual:

Design

We are at a time when most companies are determined to make terminals with large screens, taking better or worse advantage of the bezels. However, the Vernee M5 has none of those claims. Rather than affecting him, it works well.

To put ourselves in a situation, it should be noted that thanks to the 5.2-inch screen the measurements of the device are contained. Specifically 72.6mm x 147.3mm x 6.9mm. We are talking about a terminal that fits very well in the hand and with its 145 grams it hardly weighs. Not only that, but both its slim thickness as well as the lateral curves and smoothness of its metallic back make the Vernee comfortable while wearing.

In general, we are talking about a unibody design very well resolved as a whole. With general lines that tend to curves in practically all joints. You can only be reproached for not having tried to take more advantage of the screen at this point. On the front, the bezels could have been reduced. You can't demand much for the price.

Turning to detail the situation of each element, on the front we find at the top the speaker for calls, the proximity sensor, the camera for selfies and the LED for notifications. At the bottom no physical buttons have been included. If we go to the back, we will see that they have arranged a single camera and next to it, the flash. To finish and just below the camera, the fingerprint sensor is located.

Moving to the sides, at the top there is still the characteristic 3.5mm jack for headphones and the microphone for noise cancellation. On the right side we find the shared volume button in the upper area and below the on / off button.

The left side is exclusively for the SIM extractor, which can hold two nanoSIM or one nanoSIM and a microSD card. The standard microUSB connector, multimedia speaker and call microphone are located on the bottom side as usual.

screen

As I mentioned above, the Vernee M5 offers a 5.2-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels. That gives us a pixel density of 282 per inch. It is true that both resolution and density are low. However, during daily use the screen perfectly meets the requirements of the average user in terms of image quality. The viewing angles are good and the colors and contrast more than correct.

Screen brightness does its job outdoors without being sublime. What's more, at night even the minimum brightness can be a little annoying.

Sound

This section is not one of the best unemployed. The sound has a medium power without being heard very loudly. This would not be a problem if it were not for the fact that the sound quality does not become good at all. The sound is played slightly distorted and canned.

OS

The Vernee M5 has Android 7.0 Nougat with the Vos customization layer created by the company. Fortunately, this layer of personalization has an almost complete similarity to pure Android. The only addition that can be found are the settings to customize the interface or the smart assistance. This helps applications consume less or make it easier to use the terminal through gestures and taps. We have not seen any junk applications. As they say: Chapó.

On the other hand, the operating system runs smoothly and most importantly, without any error or bug at a glance. It is something that usually happens in this type of terminals. Also noteworthy is the effort put by the company to periodically update the terminal.

performance

Despite its reduced price and size, the Vernee M5 also surprises when mounting a Mediatek MT6750 processor with eight cores. Specifically, 4 cores at 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A53 and another 4 cores at 1Ghz ARM Cortex-A53. All this together with the Mali-T860 MP2 GPU and 4GB of RAM offers more than correct performance. Giving AnTuTu a result of 39462.

After testing several games with a high graphics load, it has been verified that they run without problems and without jerks.

In our testing, we have used the Vernee with 64Gb of storage. It is possible to find another model with 32Gb and a slightly cheaper price.

The fingerprint reader responds effectively. The display has the inconvenience of taking a second to turn on.

Camera

We are used to double rear camera. This is not the case. It includes a single camera with a BSI CMOS sensor with 2.0 focal aperture and 13 megapixel resolution. Using a single camera may perhaps make it impossible to take snapshots with extra effects. This does not prevent from carrying out the task that the cameras have always had. Photograph plain and simple.

Little is expected from a low-end smartphone, but the Vernee surprises. The M5 takes pretty good snapshots. In an environment with good light the definition and contrast are very good. Colors appear with a good color gamut, without washed tones. Autofocus works fine and fast, but no buts. It is a worthy rival to the camera of other more expensive terminals.

In night shots or indoors, the M5 takes photos with noise and worse definition. Even so, it still maintains within what fits a good sharpness and colors.

The video camera records at a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30 fps. It has both digital zoom and optical stabilization.

The secondary camera has 8 megapixels. This takes decent shots with correct colors but with a slight and obvious lack of contrast and definition.

Battery

The 3300 milliAmpere-hours is the quintessential battery capacity of many terminals. The M5 was not going to be less. Lower screen resolution and other factors favor better battery performance. During our tests we have managed to keep the terminal away from the current for a day and a half with normal use and almost 5 hours of screen.

Connectivity

Without going too far, we can find the essentials in a smartphone today. Bluetooth 4.0, support for 4G LTE bands, Wi-Fi Direct and Hotspot, A-GPS, GPS and FM Radio. The latter is more difficult to find in even high-end terminals.

Vernee M5 conclusion and final words

In Chinese and cheap terminals, the result can go from bad to regular many times, only the price is saved. With the Vernee M5 more things are saved. The design, the screen, the battery, the camera and even the performance are aspects that leave you with a good taste in your mouth. It is not that one can expect much, but when nothing disappoints you and everything surprises you, it means that something is good.

All this seasoned with an affordable price for almost anyone. Especially for those who need a balanced smartphone but do not stand out. As mentioned at the beginning of the analysis, its price is around € 100 in the 64GB storage model and € 90 in the 32GB model and it is possible to find it in black and blue.
