The packaging is intended to protect the projector and all its accessories. We find a cardboard box that shows us all the technical characteristics of the product. The bundle is made up of:

In this section we find a matte black finish on the sides and more shiny and textured on the top along with the power, volume, source selection and wheel buttons for sharpness adjustment.

It is appreciated the numerous grilles for correct ventilation and the use of blades for both the entry and exit of air on the sides. Curiously, the current input will also be found in this section instead of behind.

At the back are the VGA and HDMI input, which also serves to connect any Smartphone that supports the MHL protocol through the use of its respective cable. Other available inputs are the USB, the SD card slot and an AV-In port. For audio output, a 3.5 mm Jack connector must be used.

All this is encompassed by measures of 17.5cm x 13.8cm x 5.15cm. More than correct measures to transport the projector anywhere but slightly larger than other competitive models. The same happens with the weight that despite not being excessive, it is greater than other mini-projectors and is located at 830gr.

Our tests with the PLED-W800 were carried out by placing it at a distance of approximately 3 meters from the screen and obtaining an image of 92 inches diagonally.

The native resolution that it provides us is WXGA (1280 x 800) and an aspect ratio of 16: 9. However, it supports videos and images with resolutions up to 1080p. The majority use today for many buyers is still for presentations but the increasingly high resolution makes it also used as a media player.

Like other mini-projectors, the choice of brightness modes are important. The PC Mode is the one that gives less brightness but at the same time is the mode in which the fans make the least noise. We opted for the brightest mode and despite the increase in noise, it is something that does not bother if you do not pay attention to it and focus on what you see.

With this configuration the image with enough ambient light is still something is a point that on the other hand no LED projector has yet surpassed. However, under artificial light, the image quality improves significantly and is solid thanks to the amount of lumens that the W800 has.

In low light is where we appreciate that the image quality is really good and where its high contrast (120000: 1) and its saturation are used. During video playback, the default saturation turns more red in skin tones and a slightly greenish color can be seen on white backgrounds. By adjusting the values ​​a bit, a more realistic color can be achieved.

A common aspect of DLP chip projectors as is the case today with LED mini-projectors is the so-called rainbow effect that shows small flashes of red-green and blue in bright images on dark backgrounds. It is an effect that some people appreciate more than others but it is there.

It should be noted that the screen size will be predisposed by the closest or furthest situation to which the screen projector is placed. It is certainly something to consider even when the PLED-W800.

Once the projector is placed, other options such as 2X digital zoom or automatic image adjustment to 2: 3, 16: 9 or 16:10 ratios help a lot.

Audio

The pair of 2-watt speakers, despite appearing the opposite, have a fairly high power and surprise if you are in a small room. You can't ask for much more from a mini-projector.

Connectivity

Including the entries that we mentioned in the upper section, the W800 also has an internal memory of 2GB. More than enough if you want to store and project documents, spreadsheets and powerpoint.

However, Viewsonic goes further, and together with the project, sells a USB Wifi key separately to be able to make transmissions wirelessly and compatible with Miracast and DLNA.

The ViewSonic PLED-W800 is a compact projector with a spectacular design. Until recently we have not seen a real evolution of the projectors, and after our tests we can confirm that they are getting stronger both due to their versatility, as well as the ease of transportation or the duration of their lamps at around 30, 000 hours.

If there is a but in this technology it is that they usually sin of little brightness or options, but without a doubt the PLED-W800 considerably improves these defects. In certainly a great option if you are thinking of getting one.
