Western digital launches its first 10tb hdd unit

Anonim

WD has expanded its line of Western Digital Purple hard drives, targeting video surveillance applications, with a new 10TB helium storage drive. The drive is optimized for write-intensive workloads and supports various technologies that minimize the number of potential errors due to the high number of incoming data streams.

The new Western Digital Purple means the first 10 TB HDD from this company, with a speed of 5400 RPM and a cache memory of 256MB, so we should expect an increase in performance compared to the 8, 6 and 5 TB of this line.

The Western Digital Purple 10 TB (WD100PURZ) drive is based on the HelioSeal platform with seven PMR (Perpendicular Magnetic Recording) decks with a capacity of 1.4 TB per deck. The company managed to increase the density in each plate, achieving an improvement in the read-write speed of approximately 18% compared to the 8 TB model.

The Purple series hard drives are specially designed to be durable and work with constant reading and writing of data, as in surveillance applications. These models can operate with up to 64 cameras and have the necessary technology to avoid problems with low voltage, power cuts, etc.

Western Digital says the disk is ready for new surveillance systems and has already begun shipping the first units to its partners. They will be on sale soon with a suggested price of $ 399.

It is very possible that Western Digital is also launching hard drives of this capacity for its other series designed for the general consumer, we will be attentive to what happens.
