The latest Microsoft Windows 10 update comes with some minor changes. For example, Microsoft has added a new feature that allows users to remove the group from the Start menu. Similarly, there is another small change that suggests that the current volume mixer will be removed in a future release.

Microsoft will remove the classic volume mixer

In Windows 10 19H1 Build 18272, clicking the "Open Volume Mixer" option in the context menu of the sound will open the configuration page of the modern volume mixer instead of the legacy volume mixer. It is important to note that the sound settings always included a modern volume mixer, but the option "Open volume mixer" on the taskbar launched the legacy volume mixer. This will change with Windows 10 19H1 as the update will replace the old volume mixer shortcut with the new modern experience.

In any recent version of Windows 10, you can access the new volume mixer from Settings> System> Sound. On the sounds page, you need to scroll down a bit and click on the app's device and volume preferences under "Other sound options." This will open a page with advanced options for controlling volume and input / output devices.

Microsoft has not yet removed the legacy volume mixer. At the moment, only the shortcut has been replaced and you can still find the old volume mixer from Control Panel or by searching for SndVol.exe in Cortana.

This is one more step to offer Windows 10 users a more modern and modern experience. What do you think of the decision made?
