Some Windows 10 devices may boot with a black screen when they first start after installing the latest updates.

The latest cumulative updates to Windows 10 brings more problems than solutions

Microsoft recognized the problem on June 14. The client and server editions of Windows 10 are affected by the problem, according to the Microsoft article posted on the official release information website.

The company lists W10 version 1809, W10 version 1803, and W10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 on the client side, and Windows Server 2019 on the server side. Other client and server products are not affected by Microsoft.

The problem with the black screen seems to have a 'home' solution; A system reboot should solve the problem. Microsoft recommends pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete on affected systems and selecting the Restart option in the lower right corner of the screen to restart the system. The system should boot to the desktop normally after restart.

Microsoft acknowledged that it is working on a solution, and that reports suggest that only a "small number of devices" are affected by the problem. It is too early to know if this is related to other issues that users may experience on Windows 10 devices, for example issues related to antivirus applications causing issues such as long startup times or freezing.

The updates causing the problem are the latest cumulative updates for the affected versions of Windows 10.
