Windows 10 April Update has introduced many new features in Microsoft's operating system, one of the most interesting is PWA, or progressive web applications. These are web apps that use Service Workers to act like native apps, supporting offline use, notifications, Live Tiles, and more.

You won't have to wait for the PWAs to arrive at the store to install them

Microsoft announced during a session yesterday that in the next major Windows 10 update, codenamed Redstone 5, there will be new display modes for PWA applications. In the same session, Redmond's said that users will also be able to download PWA directly from the Edge browser. Something that will allow users to install any PWA that is on the web, such as those that Google already has available, such as Gmail.

We recommend reading our post about Microsoft talks about the intermittent freezing problem of Windows 10 April Update

Currently, there are two ways for PWAs to end up in the Microsoft store, they can be submitted by developers, and it can also be Microsoft itself who adds them. Google is known for not submitting apps to Microsoft's app stores, Microsoft is still trying to work with the search giant to bring its apps to the store.

The good news is that you won't have to wait for Google apps to appear in the Windows Store. Once you can download PWA directly through Edge, you can install any PWA you want. Without a doubt this will be an important step forward to help improve the popularity of PWAs, hopefully we will have more details over the next few months as the arrival of Redstone 5 approaches. What do you think of the decision to Microsoft?
