Installing Windows applications inside Linux could soon be a little easier than today. The new Winepak project was born to simplify the installation and execution process of software created for Windows within Linux.

Winepak offers Flatpak packages with software designed to run on a Windows operating system

Winepak is a project that focuses on packaging Windows applications as Flatpak packages, for faster and more trouble-free use. These applications will continue to use Wine to be able to run within a GNU / Linux environment. Flatpak is a self-contained application package format for Linux, these stand out for including all the necessary elements for its operation, and for each one running independently of each other and of the operating system.

Winepak is a project that is still in its infancy, despite this, interesting games such as Fortnite, Overwatch and World of Warcraft are already available, although Fortine is not currently working, so more work is needed in the package. Beyond games, we can find Internet Explorer 8, a web browser that nobody will want to use unless it is strictly necessary for compatibility reasons.

The Winepak project intends to offer users its own app store, so that users don't have to resort to other stores like KDE Discover, Gnome Software or the dreaded command terminal. These applications will be compatible with all Flatpak-compatible distributions, including Linux Mint, Arch Linux and many more.

What do you think of this new Winepak project? Do you usually use Windows software inside Linux?
