The Xbox Series X is going to be Microsoft's next-generation console, but rumors suggest that another less powerful model of the console, known by the code name Lockhart, is also in development. The console has yet to be announced, but a recent finding, however, seems to suggest that development of this console is well underway.

Xbox Lockhart would be a cheaper and less powerful model than Series X

Earlier today, source _rogame discovered a new unknown AMD APU. This APU features an eight-core Ryzen CPU with a 4.0 GHz frequency and 16 GB of memory shared between RAM and VRAM: 12 GB of RAM and 4 GB of VRAM. The details of the GPU are unknown at the moment.

It is speculated that it could be the Xbox / Lockhart S-series APU or a new version of the Fireflight APU, which powered the Subor Z + console. However, since the Subor team was disbanded last year, it seems more likely that it is Microsoft's unannounced console APU.

The 3DMARK 11 and Time Spy scores, which are not particularly impressive, have also been shared, bringing the GPU to the same level of performance as the GTX 980. However, there is a private Time Spy score for the APU which is much better than the first, and there could be a reason for the discrepancy between the scores.

8C / 8T could also mean this is running in BC mode which could also explain Time Spy performance

  • The new overall score for the 'unknown' APU is 7.1KRx 5600M + 4800H overall score 5.4KR9 3900X + OCed GTX 1660 Super 7.3Ki9 9900K + OCed GTX 1660 Ti 7.5K

If this is the Xbox S / Lockhart Series APU, it would be more powerful than previously thought, as the console is said to be targeting 4 TFLOP. Time Spy's private score would put the GPU in the territory of the RX 5600 XT, from 7 to 7.9 TFLOP.

Even with an overall Time Spy 7.1K score and with the SMT on, we would see a 6.5K to 7K GPU score, which is where the RX 5600 XT is placed, which is a 7 to 7 Navi card, 9 TFLOP.

The Xbox Series X launches later this year worldwide, and any other models are yet to be confirmed. We will keep you informed on the matter as soon as more news arrives.
