At launch, the XFX THICC II version of the Radeon RX 5700 XT was heavily criticized when it was discovered that the card was performing below-optimal acoustic performance relative to other manufacturers' options. It seems that XFX has heard those complaints and the company is trying to redeem itself by offering an improved version of the heatsink.

XFX 5700 XT THICC II receives the THICC III heatsink and a free replacement can be ordered

Those with the improved heatsink are now available for purchase, according to the XFX spokesperson, who disclosed this information when he commented in a Reddit post on the performance of the new THICC III RX 5700 XT.

THICC II cards now have the same copper heatsink as THICC III cards - in fact, they're already on the shelves this week with the upgraded coolers.

Essentially, the new design of the THICC II will implement the same copper plate found in the THICC III heatsink of the 5700 XT. The THICC II heatsink lacked an aluminum motherboard that covered the memory modules, which meant that the heat dissipation in this part of the GPU was less than the THICC III copper solution. Therefore, unlike last time, overall heat and noise levels should be lowered on the new THICC II 5700 XT.

The spokesperson also stated that the XFX is offering free replacements to owners who wish to replace their previous THICC II cards by contacting XFX support.

Unfortunately, XFX has not yet published any specific identification details of the new card, so we have no way of knowing if the model we buy comes with the new dissipation or not, for that it would have to disassemble the heatsink. This only applies to purchases from now on. If you purchased this model a few months ago, chances are you have the 'old' version of the heatsink.
