Xiaomi Redmi 6 is the renewal for this year 2018 of star terminal for the entry range. It is a smartphone with a generous 5.45-inch screen that bets on an 18: 9 format to be fashionable, as well as fairly thin bezels to keep the final size of the device fairly moderate. Hidden inside is the eight-core MediaTek Helio A22 processor that will deliver excellent performance.
Do you want to know how this great terminal performs? Do not miss our analysis! Let's start!
We appreciate the trust in the Infofreak store for the transfer of the product for its analysis:
Xiaomi Redmi 6 technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
First of all, we focus on the presentation of this Xiaomi Redmi 6, as it is the first aspect that every brand must take care of if it wants to be on the Olympus of the best. The terminal comes in a rigid cardboard box, it is a very compact box since it is not an excessively large smartphone. The box has a very good quality impression in all the details, it has been a long time since Xiaomi stopped using neutral cardboard boxes for most of its products.
When opening the box we see the smartphone covered by a plastic bag and accommodated in a piece of foam to prevent it from moving during transport. We take out the terminal and find a second section where all the accessories come, including a silicone case, a USB cable and the wall charger. Of course, neither the documentation nor the tool to remove the card tray is missing.
We now focus on the Xiaomi Redmi 6. At the design level we do not see any important news compared to the previous Redmi 5, so all the changes will be under the hood. This measure allows savings in manufacturing costs, in order to offer a product with a better price-performance ratio. The terminal has a weight of 145 grams and measures 147.5 x 71.5 x 8.3 mm.
The buttons for volume and power have been placed on the right side, all of them have a firm touch and do not dance, denoting a good quality.
If we look at the left side we see the tray for the cards, in this case we can put two Nano SIMs or one Nano SIM and a MicroSD to expand the internal memory of the terminal. To remove the tray we just have to use the tool provided by Xiaomi.
At the bottom we have the microUSB charging port, once again the jump to USB Type-C has not been made and we believe that it is a mistake to limit it to premium game media and high-end. We don't get it!
And at the top we see the characteristic infrared emitter and a 3.5 mm minijack plug. Where's the main speaker? In the sound section we will see it.
screen
Xiaomi Redmi 6 is built with a 5.45-inch screen, this is based on an IPS panel and reaches a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels, which translates to a density of 295 ppi. This is a good quality IPS panel, resulting in vivid colors and excellent viewing angles.
Regulation is very good when we go outside. The truth, that having an 18: 9 aspect ratio and 72% of useful screen area makes HD + resolution very comfortable. I have agreed with several friends and we all think that it really does not seem like it is a 720p.
Sound
Surprisingly, the speaker is located at the back of the smartphone. We liked that it sounds very clear and the audio is quite clear. Although given its location when we put it on the table, the experience falls and does not sound as good. Converts to more metallic audio.
Cameras and fingerprint reader
At the top of the front we see the camera, sensors and speaker for calls. The front camera has a resolution of 5 MP, very correct to be talking about an entry-level device. Both in its normal selfie mode and portrait mode. With good light we can take great photos.
We now turn to see the back, where the inclusion of a fingerprint reader for the first time in the lower range of Xiaomi stands out, register the fingerprint and unlock your mobile with it whenever you need it. Reading is pretty good and fast. Although when we have the Xiaomi Redmi 6 in the pocket it tries to unlock itself and it blocks us for 20 seconds. It has happened to us only once, but it is not something usual in terminals of this range.
We continue with the cameras! This sensor is located under the double rear camera, consisting of two 12 MP and 5 MP sensors, it is also the first time that we see a double camera in the low range of Xiaomi. This camera is assisted by an LED flash to improve its behavior in low light conditions. For our taste, it is at a higher level than the Xiaomi Redmi S2 and on par with the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite.
With good light we can make some tremendous photos and with a fairly good level of detail. At night, the lack of clarity does not help and it shows that we are facing a mid-range entry terminal.
performance
Inside this Xiaomi Redmi 6 hides a MediaTek Helio P22 processor, which is made up of eight Cortex A53 cores that are capable of reaching a maximum frequency of 1.95 GHz, offering a very good balance between performance and power consumption. This processor is completed by the PowerVR GE8320 GPU at a clock rate of 650 MHz.
The processor is accompanied by a total of 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, although there is a second version with 64 GB of internal memory. If we are short on storage, we can put a microSD card of up to 128 GB. The set will allow us to perform multitasking actions and work with different applications at the same time. You can watch a video and reply to a message, or have several applications at the same time without affecting the performance of your mobile
It is true that when we are used to playing very well optimized processors such as Snapdragon, Apple or Kirin, the Mediatek lacks a bit of optimization. But for the day-to-day life of most mortals.
Although we are not very supportive of smartphone benchmarks, we have passed AnTuTu with a result of 74233 pts. As you can see, it is not a result to shoot rockets, but at least it serves as a reference to other terminals. But the important thing that its use at the level of games and daily use exceeds well.
Battery and Operating System
This whole set is powered by a 3000 mAh battery, and is managed by the MIUI 9.5 operating system based on Android 8.1 Oreo. We miss a better autonomy and it is that with very demanding use we have reached 4 and a half hours of screen and if we play Pokemon Go the battery lowers a little more. We believe this is its weakest and most improvable point in future reviews.
MIUI is one of the user-rated layers of customization best, offering highly useful features while also optimizing the use of resources. Currently it has MIUI 9 but at the moment we do not know if it will be one of the terminals chosen to move to MIUI 10 and its excellent gesture manager. So much so that it is competing with pure Android and OxygenOS as the best interface.
Connectivity
As for coverage, this Xiaomi Redmi 6 includes all the bands necessary to use it perfectly in Europe, including the 800 MHz band.
- 2G networks (GSM): 850-900-1800-1900 MHz 3G networks (WCDMA): 850-900-1900-2100 MHz 4G networks (LTE): 850-900-1800-2100-2600
Of course it also includes WiFi ac, bluetooth 4.2, FM Radio, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou. The only absence is NFC, which is understandable given its low price. Not bad, right? ?
Final words and conclusion about Xiaomi Redmi 6
The Xiaomi Redmi 6 seems to us one of the great options in the entry-level smartphone series. It incorporates very competent hardware, cameras that offer a great level for its price, quite acceptable gaming performance and a fast charge that is not as fast as that of its older brothers but that meets its objective.
Which is more worth the Xiaomi Redmi 6 or Xiaomi Redmi S2? After internally discussing it, we think that if you want power and a bigger screen, the Redmi S2 is the best option today. But if you hate smartphones with huge screens and don't mind having so much power, the Redmi 6 is a great option.
Its weakest point is the battery, we have achieved very few hours of screen (we make a very demanding use) and it puts us somewhat behind in this aspect. Does the day endure it? Without much problem, but we will always arrive with -10%.
In Infofreak we find it for a price of 142 euros that with the FREAK2018 coupon stays at 139 euros. Which we consider to be very good considering its two-year warranty. Although if you have money in China you can easily find it for approximately 114 euros. What did you think of this Xiaomi Redmi 6? Would you buy it? You got it? Tell us about your experience
