Intel is preparing to release a new security patch to combat the well-known microarchitectural data sampling (MDS) flaw, also called as Zombieland. This is the third patch that addresses vulnerability in one year.

According to the company's blog post, of these two new problems, one is considered low risk and the other medium risk. Both require authenticated local access, which means that a hacker should not be able to exploit these flaws remotely. These new issues are closely related to issues that were addressed in May and November 2019 as Intel has worked to progressively reduce the vulnerability of the MDS.

Intel has faced intense criticism from security researchers for its decision to address these vulnerabilities in phases, rather than taking an immediate and comprehensive approach to address them.
Meanwhile, the latest patch should be available "in the near future" for all platforms. Hopefully this doesn't have too much of an impact on the performance of Intel processors.
