After struggling with Intel's CPU shortage for nearly a year , Acer will join Asus, Dell, HP, Huawei, Lenovo, and Samsung in launching laptops using second-generation Ryzen Mobile processors using the Zen + architecture. Acer announced that the Nitro 5 and Swift 3 laptops will be the first to use AMD processors.

Acer Nitro 5

The Nitro 5 is a gaming notebook for casual gamers, providing a second-generation quad-core, eight-wire AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor with Radeon RX 560X graphics. The laptop uses a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS screen with thin bezels. The relationship between the screen and the body is a measure that some laptop manufacturers seem to have begun to consider more recently, a trend imposed by smartphones.

The Nitro 5 supports Wi-Fi 5 with 2 × 2 MU-MIMO technology that improves data transmission in online games, according to Acer. The laptop also supports HDMI 2.0 and USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 (up to 5 Gbps).

Acer also adds a technology called CoolBoost that increases fan speed by 10% and CPU and GPU cooling by 9% compared to automatic mode.

Acer Swift 3

The new ultra-slim Acer Swift 3 laptop will also feature a second-generation 15W quad-core eight-core Ryzen 3700U processor with a Radeon Vega iGPU. The manufacturer also gives the option of including a Vega 540X GPU (optional).

The Swift 3 also comes with a 14-inch display with even thinner bezels (Acer didn't mention the screen-to-body ratio in this case) and an aluminum body that opens 180 degrees to lay flat. The laptop weighs 1.45 kg and is 18 mm (0.71 inches) thick.

Acer will showcase these two ultrabooks starting May 28 at Computex.
