Acer nitro xv3 review in Spanish (full analysis)

Table of contents:

Anonim

Acer Nitro XV3 is one of those monitors in which the manufacturer takes everything it has and puts it in one unit to create an almost perfect product. You will agree with us to know a little more about this wonder. We have a 27-inch size ideal for desktop, with IPS 4K panel at 90% DCI-P3, ideal also for designing, but it also supports HDR 400 and its refresh rate is 144 Hz along with AMD FreeSync with backlight, so also it is ideal to play. So what's the catch? Well, very few, and perhaps its price of 900 euros.

We will discover all this and more in our review, but not before thanking Acer for their trust in our team to give us the product and be able to do their analysis.

Acer Nitro XV3 technical characteristics

Unboxing

The box that is responsible for transporting this Acer Nitro XV3 is certainly large, obviously they have a 27-inch monitor, and therefore measures 35 cm wide and 70 cm long. As in the entire Predator series, and also in the Nitro, this box is made of rigid cardboard of standard thickness and is completely printed in the brand's color, that is, bluish gray. Important detail is that it provides two handles for transport on the sides.

On both main faces we have exactly the same, a photograph of the monitor mounted, working and with its visors installed, but beware, it also has them. We are shown a lot of information about its characteristics in the form of schematic icons, since on the side we do not have the typical data sheet table.

Now what we will do is open the box to take out our Acer Nitro XV3 monitor, and in this case we have something quite interesting, because we will have it completely assembled and ready to use it. The monitor is covered by a Styrofoam bag plus two huge Styrofoam cork molds above and below. And we have enough accessories inside this box, check that none are missing.

  • Acer Nitro XV3 monitor with bracket installed Cable and power supply DisplayPort and HDMI cable USB 3.0 Type-B cable VESA bracket for wall mounting User guide, warranty and monitor calibration report side and top displays

If you remember, we did the review of the Acer Predator XB3 a few months ago and the bundle was exactly the same. But we have many more similarities that we will see now in the design section.

Design

And precisely in its design and final appearance lie many of the similarities with the Predator XB3 model, and it is that if you see that review again, we are practically facing monitors traced at first glance, although obviously there have been changes that we will now see.

Acer continues to introduce a very good finish of this panel with anti-glare that will avoid light reflections on the panel and the corresponding mirror effect. The entire external frame will be made of PVC plastic of considerable rigidity and thickness after performing the infallible “tap with the nail” test.

In fact, the side and top frames are exactly the same as the XB3 model, 15mm on each and 23mm on the bottom frame with double beveled edges. And here comes the first difference, this lower frame instead of being smooth, presents a ribbed and matte finish.

Like other models, Acer has installed a brightness sensor so that the monitor automatically adjusts the brightness based on the ambient light in the room.

We turn the Acer Nitro XV3 to see the entire rear area and in this way, in more detail, its base and arm. And it is also very similar to the XB3, as it features a central column built in metal and covered in plastic as a beautification method. The monitor movement system is of course hydraulic and this support arm will not allow us to rotate the monitor to place it in reading mode.

The support on the ground consists of these three metal legs that Acer has been installing in its new models, although in this case they are finished in shiny silver with the pivot joint directly implemented in the central column. The extension of these legs generates a depth of 307 mm and 540 mm width, so we will need considerable space to support the Acer Nitro XV3.

Even so, keep in mind that these legs do not protrude from the front which is good for ergonomics and the final presentation. In the support column we also have the traditional hole for cable routing. And finally at the top of this stand is a small extendable rod to hang our headphones.

It is time to see the ergonomics of this Acer Nitro XV3 gaming monitor, in which we have no surprises either. To begin, we can adjust the height of the screen in a range of 100 mm between the lowest position and the highest position.

And as we say, we will not have the possibility of rotating it to place it in reading mode, something that would have been interesting, but we understand that it is due to space reasons, since the support does not go high enough to make the complete turn.

Acer Nitro XV3

The next position adjustment it allows is the rotation on its Z axis, that is, the rotation to change the orientation of the screen. The turn can be made both to the right and to the left at an angle of ± 20 °, which is not bad.

And finally we can also move it on the Y axis, which is the vertical rotation from the joint of the support to adjust it to our direction of vision. We will have a range that goes from 5 degrees down and 25 degrees up.

Acer Nitro XV3

Acer Predator XB3

And looking again at the last image shown, we can see another difference of this Acer Nitro XV3 with the Predator XB3, and it is in the rear cone of the screen. In this new model , the manufacturer has mainly reduced the upper area, instead of being convex, it is now concave, that is, with the curvature towards the interior. In addition, it is noted that it is slightly less thick.

In fact, the active ventilation system has been removed from its interior and it is now a completely silent monitor with aluminum heatsinks installed in the main processing elements, such as the chip that implements AMD FreeSync technology. The rest of the exterior area is finished in PVC just as it happens in its frames.

And finally, we must indicate that the monitor is compatible with its installation on standardized VESA 100 × 100 mm supports, one of them is included in this purchase bundle for installation on the wall.

Has anyone forgotten about the Acer Nitro XV3 "ears" ? Well, here we have them, and they are exactly the same as those of the XB3, as has been normal since they are monitors of the same size. In total there are three elements, two that will be installed on the sides using two screws each, and one on the top that we simply have to support on the sides.

They are made of rigid plastic with a brushed imitation metal finish on the outside and velvet canvas on the inside to absorb residual screen brightness and focus more attention.

Connectivity and lighting

Precisely another of the renewed aspects of the monitor, and which in our opinion has been an aesthetic improvement and from the point of view of accessibility, has been connectivity. And it is that now we only have two locations for this, eliminating the small panel with USB on the side that left the USB Type-B cable very visible.

We start with the simplest, the panel located on the left that has two USB 3.1 Gen1 ports. These USB will allow us to connect peripherals such as keyboard, mouse or storage flash drives. Very comfortable to use in this area and we appreciate that you stay there.

And then we have the main panel located in the lower area of the monitor and which is protected by a removable plastic housing. Here we will have the following ports:

  • DC-In connector for monitor power Two HDMI 2.0 ports that support 4K @ 60Hz Two Display Port 1.4 ports that support 4K @ 144Hz USB Type-B 3.1 Gen1 for data upload 2x USB 3.1 Gen1 for data

Things to keep in mind, because only two, the first, is that if we do not connect the USB Type-B cable to our PC, four other USBs cannot be used to connect peripherals, since it acts as a transmission axis between PC and monitor. And the second is that if we want to use FreeSync and those 144 Hz provided by the screen, we will need to use the DisplayPort port and not the HDMI.

But be careful, because, if you have noticed, we also have included the LED lighting strip in this lower area of the monitor. This strip can be managed directly from the OSD panel, in the System section.

The truth is that it provides us with powerful lighting towards our desk that greatly facilitates the adaptability of sight in situations of quite darkness. We appreciate that this element is maintained in this model, because we liked it a lot already from the start of the XB3.

Display and features

We leave behind the external design and the connections to fully enter the image capabilities of this Acer Nitro XV3 monitor that we already anticipated will be spectacular. Many of these features will be similar to the model we have been discussing so far, considered its younger brother, but some of them have been improved.

And the technical section of this Acer Nitro XV3 is of a level typical of the Premium range since it has united everything a gamer can expect and also everything a designer can ask for in terms of quality in color representation. We start with its screen, a panel with 27-inch IPS LED technology that offers us a native resolution UHD 4K (3840 × 2160 pixels). This makes a density of 161 pixels per inch.

The generic performance of the display consists of a native contrast ratio of 1, 000: 1 and dynamic 100, 000, 000: 1. It supports the Display HDR 400 standard thanks to a native brightness of 350 nits (cd / m 2) and 400 nits in HDR mode.

But the most interesting thing from a gameplay point of view is that we have a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz with dynamic refresh technology A MD FreeSync and certification of compatibility with Nvidia G-Sync. In addition, the response speed of this panel has been improved to just 1 ms VRB (Visual Response Boost). Without a doubt spectacular.

And we also have great news for those looking for a good monitor for design, because the color depth of this Acer Nitro XV3 ascending at 10 bits, capable of representing up to 10.7 billion colors. Similarly, it offers a 90% DCI-P3 color space ideal for photo content and multimedia creators, and far exceeds the sRGB spectrum.

And it is also worth knowing what technologies Acer makes available to the user to improve the gaming experience. And to start, we have the possibility to manage the image modes using the Acer Display Widget software, which is simply an extension of the OSD panel to select the image mode that best suits us to play, watch movies or work on design.

Facing the player, we have BlueLighShield technology, to reduce blue light on the screen and preserve our vision, Flickerless, which eliminates image flicker and improves eyestrain. And also ConfyView and Low Dimming technologies that basically improve image and rendering for long hours of gaming.

Being an IPS panel, the viewing angles are cited as mere extra information, since they are 178 ° both vertically and horizontally. This can be easily verified in photos and much better in person, demonstrating image and color quality practically at any angle.

Integrated sound

And we can not forget that this monitor includes two 4W speakers on both sides in the interior area, the truth, it offers us a good sound power when we do not want to put on the headphones or simply want to pull a basic sound system.

The quality is acceptable, it stands out in the high volume it is capable of reaching, although its bass is limited and in general, it gives us a feeling of bottleneck in the spoken parts of movies or games. Nor can we ask for much, and it more than meets what we are used to in other monitors.

Calibration and color proofing

We continue with the calibration section for this Acer Nitro XV3 in which we will see the color characteristics of the monitor, evaluating the calibration available from the factory and the brightness capacity. To do this, we are going to use the X-Rite Colormunki Display colorimeter together with its own calibration software for its adjustment, and the free HCFR software to monitor color characteristics. Let's start.

Factory calibration

We must keep in mind that the comparative color palette is the one that HCFR offers natively. Likewise, we have not touched absolutely any feature of the monitor to do the tests, with a brightness of 80% and a warm image representation.

DeltaE calibration

With the comparative color palette, the truth is that the values are above 3, which, in some colors such as gray, the human eye will be able to appreciate the difference. Precisely this difference becomes more noticeable in the gray scale, so we will try to adjust these values with a subsequent calibration.

Maximum brightness and contrast

Here we have some screenshots of the program measuring the contrast values from the cd / m 2 measured in black and white that is shown on the monitor. The first image corresponds to a factory monitor setting, and the second image with HDR 400 mode enabled.

In both cases , the theoretical contrast of 1, 000: 1 is exceeded, and that is good news according to the quality of the product.

We have also designed a 9-cell matrix on the screen where we have measured the maximum brightness of the screen, always with the HDR mode activated and the maximum brightness. Clearly there is a trend of increasing brightness to the right of the screen, where the white LED lamp will be located.

As always in the central area is where there is more light output, but practically in none of the cases do we go below those 400 nits necessary to implement HDR 400 as standard. In general we see quite uniform measurements throughout the panel, once again synonymous with quality by the manufacturer in this Acer Nitro XV3 gaming monitor .

Color levels

Next, we will list the values of Gamma, RGB luminance, RGB color levels and color temperature. The ideal results will be determined by the dashed white line, and the further the values are, the worse the calibration will be from the point of view of this software.

It is quite positive to know that all the graphs are located very close to those considered ideal, the only one that moves a little further away is the gamma curve, but to a very small extent. From the point of view of image quality in design, we have a very good representation of blacks and whites, something that is evident by the proximity of the graphics to the ideal ones.

Similarly, the color temperature is very close to the point that is considered ideal for the human eye of 6500 Kelvin (D65) to achieve a warm color sensation and less eyestrain.

Color space

We will now display the results in the sRGB, DCI-P3, and Rec. 2020 color spaces. The black triangle represents the theoretical color space and the white triangle represents the monitor color space. If the white triangle exceeds black, it means that the monitor's color space exceeds the theoretical one. The central circle indicates the D65 target (6500 Kelvin) for the gray scale, the values are intended to be inside the circle, as well as the colors sampled within their corresponding squares.

We have represented the sRGB, DCI-P3 and Rec. 2020 spaces respectively, from the one with the lowest range to the one with an extremely high range. In the first two, we can see that the colors located in the corners adjust very well to the respective color space, we only see a slight deviation in the blues for sRGB.

We do not have a specific percentage in the results, but the manufacturer ensures that the DCI-P3 space is 90% met, far exceeding 100% sRGB.

Results after calibration

After carrying out a calibration maintaining the factory brightness of 80% and maintaining the rest of the characteristics as they come, we have obtained the following results.

What we have improved the most about is the DeltaE calibration, placing the numbers somewhat closer to the colors compared in the HCFR palette. In all other respects, we have remained practically the same results, but the color representation has become noticeably warmer after the passing of the colorimeter. It is a widespread feature of this Colormunki Display on all monitors where we have used it.

Next, we leave you the ICC file with the calibration carried out for this monitor in case you see it useful to implement it on our equipment.

User experience

I consider that the factory calibration of the Acer Nitro XV3 monitor is very good, and that, in principle, we would not need an extra calibration, although the truth is that we will gain in color warmth and also in contrast if the use of HDR. As usual, to test a monitor we need these few days with it, play games, watch multimedia content, preferably 4K and HDR, and do a little work on photo editing.

And the truth is that we have simply spectacular results in all areas, it is not worth dividing it into blocks because the sensations are good in all of them. To start, we have Display HDR 400 that will come as a fable to watch movies or play. Something very positive is that we can activate it from hardware through the OSD panel, and thus avoid fighting with Windows in this matter.

By also having different color schemes that we can choose directly from the OSD, we emphasize that a calibration is not strictly necessary, since the result of choosing the graphics mode for example, does a similar job to that provided by our colorimeter. The color rendering quality is sensational and 90% DCI-P3 is sure to please almost all power users.

As for playing, we have no objections, in fact, only one, and that is that we can only activate those 144 Hz with the Display Port. Today, this brutal refresh rate on a 4K monitor is practically meaningless, because graphics cards are not capable of moving games at such speed in this resolution. But of course, in 2K or 1080p they can, and with this monitor we will have the need covered.

All this makes it one of the best 4K monitors we have tested in this first half of the year. Great work that of Acer further improving the performance of the XB32 in this new model.

OSD panel

It is also a great advantage from an ergonomic point of view to implement a joystick navigation system to touch all the OSD panel options. But we also have three buttons, ignoring the power button to open quick menus such as the image configuration or input source selection.

The menu is extremely complete and also available in Spanish. From it, we can configure all the parameters that we already know about monitors, in addition to activating HDR-400 mode through hardware, activating 144 Hz, sound and also a crosshair function for games.

From the point of view of games, we have seen much more complete menus, for example, that of AORUS, but for an average user who uses it for everything in general, they will have more than enough.

Final words and conclusion about Acer Nitro XV3

As always, I usually dedicate the first paragraph to the design of the Acer Nitro XV3 monitor, and in this case the manufacturer has followed exactly the same trend for Predator series monitors. And it is very similar to the XB3, both in design and ergonomics, although it is noticeably thinner and with legs in silver.

But where it has improved is in the pure benefits of its screen, in addition to having a 4K resolution, it has a refresh rate of 144 Hz in this case with AMD FreeSync instead of G-Sync. But the speed has been improved to 1ms and some gaming-oriented image enhancement technologies.

It also offers features for content creators, such as Display HDR 400 and 90% on DCI-P3 with a 10-bit color palette. The sensations in any of the areas are outstanding, so Acer has taken the complete pack and bet everything on this winning card. And a great detail is that active cooling has been scrapped and is now completely silent.

We also recommend the best monitors on the market

Nor should we forget that it continues with the lighting system at the bottom, and those useful parasols that will make us improve our concentration and level of immersion. The sound system is more than worthy with two 4W speakers and the very complete port panel with double DP and HDMI and up to 4 USB 3.1 Gen1 ports.

What budget do we need to buy this wonder? Well, the Acer Nitro XV3 is available for a price of about 900 euros approximately. It is what you have to look at one of the most powerful and accurate 4K monitors on the market today, but much cheaper than the XB3 due to not having G-Sync. Highly recommended for practically everything, games, content creation, work and multimedia, it can do anything.
