Acer Predator Orion 5000 was announced at the world press conference in New York as the new top-of-the-range gaming equipment from this manufacturer, which is quite a declaration of intent. We are talking about a desktop PC that includes the most advanced 8th generation Intel processors, and one of the most powerful Nvidia graphics cards in terms of consumption.

This set makes it an unbeatable setup that has been created to be able to move all games to 2560 x 1440 pixels without messing around and even fending off in 4K resolution. Ready to see our in-depth review? Here we go!

First of all, we thank Acer for the trust placed in ceding the product to us for analysis.

Acer Predator Orion 5000 technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

The Acer Predator Orion 5000 PC has arrived in a large cardboard box, the equipment is fully protected by numerous pieces of high-density foam to avoid any type of damage during transport. The box is based on a colorful design, with black and blue tones so characteristic of the Predator range. Next to PC we find all the accessories and documentation. It is a luxury presentation, it could not be less in a team of these characteristics.

Once we open the box we find the following bundle:

  • Acer Predator Orion 5000 Desktop Computer Quick Guide Predator Serial Mouse and Membrane Keypad Power Cord

Acer Predator Orion 5000 is built with the highest quality SECC steel chassis and finished in black. As we can see, a micro-perforation design has been chosen on the front and on the main side to improve air flow, something very important in a team like this that hides the highest performance hardware inside.

A super cool detail is the incorporation of two blue supports to put our gamers headphones or any object that we want to hang on our chassis.

The chassis meets EMI regulatory standards to protect both users and peripherals from potential electromagnetic interference.

On the front there are three 120mm fans with blue lighting, perfect to give an incredible aesthetic to the whole set. We also found two 120mm fans in the upper area and one in the rear area, with which the air flow is quite good.

The manufacturer has put dust filters to protect all the fans from the entrance of dirt, something that we consider a complete success. They are magnetic filters, very easy to remove for cleaning.

Once we look at the upper area we find 3 USB 3.0 connections, a USB Type C connector and the audio input / output for our helmets and microphone.

In the back area we can see that it is a very wide tower. At the top we come across an air outlet from a 120mm fan, the rear in / out connections, which have a graphics card and an ATX power supply.

Interior: taking a closer look at its components

Acer Predator Orion 5000 is offered with a maximum configuration based on the Intel Core i5 8600K processor, a six-core, twelve-thread-processing model under Intel's advanced Coffee Lake architecture. This processor is capable of reaching a base frequency of 3.6 GHz and a maximum of 4.3 GHz, which means that all games will perform at the highest level instantly. Its advanced manufacturing process at 14 nm maintains its TDP at 95W.

This processor is accompanied by an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card, a very good configuration that guarantees the best performance in all current and future games, even at the high resolution 2560 x 1440p.

Along with this we find 16 GB of DDR4 RAM in dual channel configuration, something perfect for the processor to deliver its full potential.

We continue to see the characteristics of this Acer Predator Orion 5000 with a 128 GB NVMe SSD and a mechanical hard drive with a capacity of 1 TB. The GTX 1080 Ti SLI model incorporates a 32 GB Intel Optane module that will act as a cache to speed up the loading of the most used applications and files. Too bad this model does not incorporate a 16 GB?

To keep all this hardware cool, we have opted for the advanced cooling system IceTunnel 2.0 signed by Cooler Master, which guarantees the best air flow over the processor and the graphics card so that they can operate at full power for hours without over- get warm.

This ventilation system allows to obtain great performance with a low fan speed, making it very quiet during operation. PredatorSense technology will allow you to overclock the processor and graphics card at the touch of a button, all safely and without risk thanks to its excellent cooling.

Acer Predator Orion 5000 also includes a high-speed Ethernet Killer LAN network controller, which prioritizes traffic from game-related packets to reduce latency and enhance the gaming experience. Its advanced sound engine will offer you an excellent positioning of the enemies along with your gaming headphones, all with management software that is very easy to use.

While in the back area we find a fairly decent organization of wiring and with enough possibilities to expand the storage level. For example, it allows us to add an additional 3.5 ″ hard drive and a pair of 2.5 ″ drives to expand the SSDs. Its installation is quite simple.

We really like that instead of choosing an RGB lighting system, Acer has preferred incorporating a glacial bluish color. This design offers a cold feeling and is very pleasing to the eye. We would also like to point out that the window is not tempered glass, this time they have opted for a piece of methacrylate. Although we believe that a tempered glass would have embroidered this magnificent configuration.

Test of performance

To check the stability of the Acer Predator Orion 5000 PC we will use the stock values. All our tests have been stressing the processor with AIDA64 and with its air cooling as standard. The graphics we have used is the Nvidia GTX 1070, without further delay, let's see the results obtained in our tests with a Full HD monitor: 1920 x 1080p.

The games used were:

  • Far Cry 5: Ultra TAADoom 2: Ultra TSSAA x 8Rise Of Tomb Raider Ultra Filters x 4DEUS EX Mankind Divided Ultra with x4 filterFinal Fantasy XV Benchmark

Temperatures and consumption

Repose Maximum performance
Temperatures 45 ºC 86 ºC
Consumption 77 W 251 W

Regarding the temperatures at rest and at maximum performance they are somewhat high. We have 45 ºC at idle and 86 ºC at maximum CPU performance. The graphics card is kept at an acceptable 77 ºC. While the consumption of the equipment oscillates an expected 77 W at rest and 251 W at maximum performance.

Acer Predator Sense software

Acer is also exporting its Acer Predator Sense app to their desktops after the good experience on gaming laptops. We find four highly identified sections in this tool:

Home: Allows us to monitor at a glance the temperatures of the processor, graphics card and motherboard. In addition to being able to turn on or off the lights of the equipment.

Overclocking: By incorporating a -K processor (with the multiplier unlocked) it allows us to choose between three profiles. A normal one (stock frequency), its faster version that increases the frequency to 4.1 GHz and the turbo that puts it at 4.2 GHz at a click.

To control the fans we have the " Fan Control " section. By default it allows us to put the equipment in an automatic mode that is very quiet and works very well. In its Gaming version with quite considerable noise and a custom profile to adjust the front and rear fan.

Finally we have a detailed monitoring option of the entire system. In it we can see at all times the temperatures of the processor, chipset of the motherboard and the graphics card. We also have a graph that details the minimum and maximum temperature exhaustively. It also offers us information on the ram memory and its use, Ethernet card and the Wifi. Is this application great?

Final words and conclusion about Acer Predator Orion 5000

The Acer Predator Orion 5000 is one of the best pre-mounted desktop computers that we have tested in recent years. It has a very pleasing design and very good internal components.

There are several configurations available, but in our case we have received the lightest version” with an i5-8600k processor, 16 GB of RAM, an 8 GB GDDR5 GTX 1070 graphics card and very captivating lighting.

In our tests we have been able to play without any problem any title in Full HD resolution and 2560 x 1440p. The experience of use has been quite good and its ease has been great. Good work Acer!

Some of you may be wondering: What improvements would we make to it? The first is the addition of an NVMe SSD instead of M.2 SATA. We would have liked Acer to choose a tempered glass sale instead of a methacrylate one. This detail would give it a more PREMIUM touch and we could see the interior in greater detail.

The incorporation of a compact liquid cooling of 120 mm in the rear area would also be interesting. In this way it would keep temperatures at bay, improve aesthetics and the air would come out directly. Helping to have even more efficient internal cooling than it does.

At the moment we do not know the price of the Predator Orion 5000 in Spain, but if its price is competitive and you need a gaming device, it may be the model you are looking for. What do you think of the Acer Predator Orion 5000 ?
