Nvidia's innovative G-Sync HDR monitors aim very high, and on paper, the Acer Predator X27 is the Holy Grail of PC monitors. This is one of the first monitors to support 4K resolution with 120Hz refresh rates and DisplayHDR 1000 certification. Let's take a look at all the secrets of this gem of engineering.

Will it rise to the occasion? Will your purchase be worth it now?

First of all, we thank Acer for the trust placed in us when transferring the product to us for analysis.

Acer Predator X27 technical features

Unboxing and design

The Acer Predator X27 monitor comes in a large cardboard box and with a very elegant and colorful appearance, it shows that we are in front of one of the best monitors on the market. All features are detailed in the box, which we will see throughout this complete analysis, as well as multiple high-quality images.

Inside the monitor hides along with all accessories. The bundle consists of:

  • Acer Predator X27 Monitor Power Adapter and Power Cord HDMISupport VESATon ScrewsInstruction Manual and Quick Guide Visors

A few months ago we offered you the review of another 4K 144 Hz monitor on the market with the DisplayHDR 1000 certification and, of course, the G-Sync HDR. A very impressive monitor, although it put back its price, although this range of monitors so exclusive in their releases, usually gets us used to this price.

The new Acer Predator X27 uses the same AU Optronics panel, so both are equipped with the same specs, but that doesn't mean they work the same way. In terms of design, it's an easy win for Acer here. The Acer Predator X27 is simply a much more attractive and well-built product, certainly more suited to its monstrous price.

The front of the screen itself is not all that different, with a bezel size and a similar simple design. But it is at the stand where the Acer Predator X27 begins to differentiate itself with a much more elegant design and more focused on gaming. The mount uses a unique, all-metal construction corresponding to a premium display, with light projection or colored light functions. The thick pillar at the rear provides height and swivel adjustment along with the usual tilt support. This part messes up the sleek design a bit, however it can't be seen from the front, so it's not really a problem.

The rest of the back of the Acer Predator X27 seems reasonable, although it falls a bit in the gaming category, however, compared to most models we've seen, it's basically the most beautiful monitor we've seen so far.

The Acer Predator X27 uses plastic everywhere except for the legs, with two different finishes on the back. There are also two RGB LED strips built into the design, one in the V-shaped opening towards the top and the other along the bottom edge. It is certainly a cleaner way to integrate RGB than simply placing it on a massive logo on the back.

The inputs we are receiving are no different from other G-Sync monitors: a single DisplayPort and a single HDMI port, plus an audio jack and a USB 3.0 hub with a pair of quick access ports on the left side.

Another interesting thing about these types of monitors is the active cooling fan of their hardware. We are sorry to say that the Acer Predator X27 also requires a fan to cool down the internal parts. However, Acer uses a driver optimized for this fan, which allows you to vary the speed of the fan, offering the best compromise between cooling capacity and silence.

Acer Predator X27 is very quiet in its SDR mode, while HDR content execution turns the fan on to a low noise level. That said, the fan is still "audible" during SDR operation, which can be a little annoying depending on the ambient noise in the room and especially how picky the user is.

The Acer Predator X27 basically meets all the checklist boxes on the HDR monitor, including excellent brightness support of 600 sustained nits and a maximum of over 1000 nits. Contrast is excellent thanks to a full range local backlight with 384 zones, which is fast and does not produce afterglow when shiny objects disappear from view.

Each zone is small enough that you don't see glittering around the edges of shiny objects in typical movies or games, it's only in your desktop usage that you can find those artifacts. With local dimming enabled, the contrast ratio is as high as 52, 000: 1, although it varies depending on the brightness of the content. The maximum sustained contrast ratio is around 30, 600: 1 in HDR mode, with significantly lower black levels than any other LCD monitor without local dimming.

Its 4K resolution offers exceptional image quality and extremely high pixel density on a 27-inch panel. Thanks to the use of IPS technology, the viewing angles are 178º in both planes. As for wide-range support, again, the X27 sets all the right shades, providing 93% DCI-P3 coverage, 99% Adobe RGB coverage, and 150% sRGB coverage. The panel is 8-bit + FRC, of course, it supports 10-bit color processing. All of this means that you are getting a much wider color gamut in HDR mode.

When it comes to monitors, the Acer Predator X27 provides the best HDR experience you can get right now, and games that support HDR really do look significantly better in HDR mode on this monitor, with brighter reflections, a wider range. wide of colors and a spectacular contrast.

OSD panel

The OSD is controlled by a directional switch that's great for viewing, and navigating Acer's feature-packed menu is quick and easy. Most of the settings you'll find here relate to the color and backlight controls, but there are still options like crosshair and dark boost options, though there is no ultra-low motion blur.

The OSD Panel is one of the most complete that we have been able to test to date. We like it very much in general terms, since at the touch of a joystick it allows us to have any value at hand and modify it live. Personally, it seems to me a complete success on the part of Acer. Excellent work!

Final words and conclusion about Acer Predator X27

The Acer Predator X27 is one of the best monitors we've tested to date. Its 27-inch panel, brutal design, the visors that gives us a great immersion in the game, its refresh rate of 144 Hz and its 8-bit IPS panel with 99% compatibility of Adobe RGB coverage and 150% of sRGB coverage makes it a perfect candidate for the best setup gaming.

Our playing experience has been fascinating and this monitor stands out the most. Games like Counter Strike, Fortnite or PUBG make it different from the competition. Of course, you will need top-notch hardware: i7 + RTX 2080 Ti to get the most out of it. Keep that in mind!

Perhaps the only improvement we see is that in future reviews it does not incorporate a fan inside the monitor. This would make it 100% passive, but we understand that with such components the system heats up somewhat and prefers prevention rather than cure. In addition, in this way we ensure better longevity of the monitor.

We can currently buy Acer Predator X27 in the main online stores for 2499 euros. We know that it is an expensive price, but we understand that these cutting-edge technologies and only exclusive in few products, the cost is high. If you want the best of the best now, it is the price you will have to pay. But if you're not in a hurry, in a matter of a few years, prices will drop significantly. What do you think of this monitor? Do you think it will make you a better player? ?
