ADATA is gradually reaching the main online stores in Spain. On this occasion, we have been sent the ADATA SX8200 Pro, an NVME SSD for the M.2 socket that offers great performance at a very attractive price.

Do you want to give your PC a boost with a high speed SSD? Today we bring you the analysis of this new storage device and we explain everything you need to know about it. Let's start!

First of all, we thank ADATA for the trust placed in us when transferring the product to us for analysis.

Adata SX8200 Pro technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

ADATA SX8200 Pro is presented in a very compact cardboard box, as this SSD is very small. The box is colorful and inspired by XPG's corporate image. Once we open the box, we find the SSD inside a plastic blister and next to the documentation.

As expected it comes with an M.2 form factor, which translates into measurements of 22 x 80 x 3.5 mm and a weight of just 8 grams. The device is made from a high-quality PCB, something that adds to the brand's great work to improve the firmware and capabilities come with the double-sided form factor.

The XPG brand heat sink is not included in this model, instead a thin metal plate with pre-applied thermal transfer tape is included. The board acts as a heat sink by distributing heat from the controller to a larger surface area. This allows good cooling to be maintained while not hindering compatibility with very compact devices such as laptops and Mini PCs.

The 64-layer NAND TLC 3D memory brings most of the new SSDs to life this year 2018, which means that all or almost all SSDs are on equal footing in this regard, and manufacturers have to put effort into other areas to highlight. Adata is one of the best manufacturers, and I have acted on one of the most important points of an SSD, the firmware.

ADATA SX8200 Pro aims to offer users the best features, we have the 512 GB model, which wants to offer the best possible balance between price, high performance and capacity. However, versions from 256 GB to 2 TB are offered, so it will be adjusted to the needs of all users.

The 512GB ADATA SX8200 Pro offers sequential read and write rates of up to 3, 500MB / s and 3, 000MB / s respectively. These high speeds are possible thanks to the NVMe protocol, the PCI Express 3.0 x4 interface and a highly advanced controller. It also has an SLC and DRAM cache so that the sustained performance is the maximum possible. Its advanced SMI controller offers performance rates in random read and write operations of 390K / 380K respectively.

ADATA chose Micron's 64-layer 3D NAND for this series. Adata receives wafers and stores its own flash memory so you can select the best chips for your high-end SSDs, and use the worst quality chips in lower-performance products. Over provisioning is a feature that the unit uses to broadcast writes and deletes of data in a large number of NAND blocks. This increases the resistance and write performance of the disc in areas not seen on the spec sheet. Adata coincides with the five-year warranty period of other premium NVMe SSDs. This is a piece of mind for users.

The ADATA SX8200 Pro supports Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) error correction code technology to detect and correct a wide range of data errors for more accurate data transfers and a longer SSD lifespan. It also supports E2E (end-to-end) data protection and RAID engine, ensuring data security, integrity, and long service life.

Finally, we highlight an operating temperature 0 ° C - 70 ° C, a storage temperature - 40 ° C - 85 ° C, a shock resistance of 1500G / 0.5ms, and a MTBF of 2, 000, 000 hours.

Adata SX8200 Pro Software

The software offered by Adata enables SMART monitoring, secure erase, TRIM functions, and other miscellaneous features. Adata also provides a cropped version of Acronis. This software allows you to clone data from an existing drive to the SX8200 Pro. This is a nice feature that allows you to install the drive without the hassle of reinstalling Windows and all software.

One of the most anticipated moments arrives to check the performance of the Kingston SSDNow A1000 480GB, which is what everyone is interested in, right? We have used a state-of-the-art test bench with an i9-9900K processor, liquid cooling for the processor, and an Asus Z390 Maximus XI Gene motherboard.

Temperatures

We launched a thermal camera (you will get bloated from seeing tests of this type from now on) and we wanted to check the temperatures that the Flir One PRO marks for us both at rest and at maximum performance.

We have also compared the temperatures marked with software vs. camera. We leave you a table to see the temperature differences between both methods, pointing to the SSD controller.

Corsair MP510 - 960 GB Rest (ºC) Maximum performance (ºC)
Measurement software: hwinfo64 27 ºC 66 ºC
Hardware measurement: Flir One PRO 28 ºC 79.7 ºC

Final words and conclusion about ADATA SX8200 Pro

As we said at the beginning of the analysis, ADATA is slowly getting its batteries in Spain. As we have seen, the ADATA SX8200 Pro is a very competent SSD that offers excellent performance.

We recommend you read the Best SSDs on the market

It has a SMI SM2262G controller and TLC 3D memories. As standard , it allows us to install a heatsink, which, although not as effective as we expected, helps to slightly improve temperatures. We have obtained with it installed about 80 ºC (using the Flir One PRO temperature sensor), surely with a third-party heatsink we will have more careful temperatures.

At the software level we have an application that meets its objective: to monitor and optimize. The 512 GB model is found on Amazon for just 128.67 euros, while the 1 TB model for 247.34 euros. What do you think of this ADATA SX8200 PRO? Do you think it's worth it? Have you bought it
