Alienware and AMD have signed an exclusivity agreement for the use of Ryzen Threadripper processors. Alienware's Gaming Area-51 PC appears to be the only computer to feature the new 16-core chip until the end of 2017.

Fortunately, this new agreement will only affect competing Alienware companies, so the new Ryzen Threadripper processor will still be able to be purchased by regular consumers who want to assemble their own equipment with this CPU.

Alienware Area-51 main specifications

The Area-51 is one of the featured products introduced by Alienware during E3 2017. It is an updated version of the company's top-of-the-range Gaming PC, and features the Threadripper processor.

It's also available with the new Intel Core X-Series processor, including the coveted Core i9. That said, options include the Core i7-7800X (six cores), Core i7-7820X (eight cores), and the Core i9-7900X (10 cores).

How about the 12, 14, 16 and 18 core Core i9 CPUs? At the moment, Alienware did not announce them as available options since the processors have not yet been officially released.

As for the graphics, users will have the choice between an NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti, two GTX 1080 Ti cards in SLI or even three Radeon RX 480 units in Crossfire.

Alienware hasn't disclosed pricing information yet, but the Area-51 probably won't be too cheap a PC. As for its release date, the version of the Area-51 with Ryzen Threadripper will arrive on July 27, while the model with Core X-Series will do so on August 22.
