Earlier this week Amazon applied for a trademark of " AmazonTube " according to a report found by TV Answer Man, this would be the first step in creating a new platform that rivals YouTube.

This measure would have come amid the company's public dispute with Google over access to YouTube content on Amazon devices. There is not much information on what AmazonTube could be, according to the description it would be a platform to " provide non-downloadable prerecorded audio, visual and audiovisual works via wireless networks on a variety of topics of general interest." This without a doubt makes it a direct rival to the Google platform.

It is not the first time that Amazon is rumored to be working on its own free video service, as earlier this year there were rumors that Amazon was planning a reduced version of Prime Video, although it was later denied by Amazon itself.
The dispute between Amazon and Google began when Google suddenly obtained YouTube support for Amazon's Echo Show device, citing violations of its terms of service. YouTube was restored almost two months later with a revised UI that looked more like the web interface of the Google platform, after which it was removed again a few weeks ago.

Google later took the matter one step further by adding warnings to the YouTube app on Amazon's Fire TV streaming devices that the service would no longer be available starting January 1. Since then, Amazon has resumed selling Chromecasts, and the two companies have been in talks about maintaining access to YouTube on Fire TV.
