In a report on all PCs registered with PassMark, the company reported that AMD's market share increased to 40% for the first time in a long time.

PassMark reports that AMD is present in 40% of computers globally

This data comes after Intel has suffered delays and stock problems for its 14nm processors and strong competition from AMD, which has taken advantage of the moment to launch its Ryzen series with advantages of performance, price and number of cores.

The AMD Ryzen 3000 series was launched in July 2019 and marked the company's historic transition to a 16 / 14nm node process towards 7nm. For the first time in more than three decades, Intel has lost its leadership in the process nodes in the x86 industry and AMD was the company that obtained the most benefits. AMD's 7nm processors proved not only to be able to match (and sometimes outperform) Intel processors in performance, but they offered the same at a much lower price point.

AMD's use of 'predatory' pricing appears to be quickly paying off as it takes more and more market share from Intel. While Intel continues to lead, AMD has regained up to 40% market share in the latest PassMark report and this is something we have not seen since 2006.

From the graph, it can be seen that from the first quarter of 2019 AMD's market share gain accelerated, just before the launch of the Ryzen 3000 series and more when these new processors were already in stores.

We'll see what the new Comet Lake-S processors can do to slow the decline in Intel's market share. Meanwhile, in 2020, AMD already plans to launch new Zen 3- based processors with improvements in frequencies and IPC performance, so the trend could continue this year in favor of the red company. We will keep you informed.
