During an OverclockersUK livestream some interesting news about Ryzen 2 and VEGA 11 have been shared with the special guest; James Prior, AMD's Senior Product Manager.

AMD Ryzen 2 will use AM4 socket

James Prior assured that the AM4 socket is here to stay (until 2020). Work on Zen 2 started when the fundamental parts of Zen 1 were already known. The important thing here is to distinguish Zen 2 from the ticking process of Zen 1. The next Ryzen 2000 series will probably use a refined Zen + architecture. Die shrinkage and architecture optimizations are expected.

So the Ryzen 2, or more precisely the Zen 2 could come with the Ryzen 3000 series, while the Ryzen 2000 (or Ryzen 1 × 50) will use the Zen1 / Zen + architecture with a 12nm manufacturing process.

If everything goes as planned, forward compatibility for Zen + and Zen2 processors would be available with a simple BIOS update on existing AM4 motherboards.

AMD Vega 11 is integrated into Raven Ridge

The mysterious Vega 11 is not a GPU by itself. It is a solution for AMD Raven Ridge APU processors with 11 enabled computing units. James Prior confirmed that Ryzen APUs offer up to 11 calculation units.

So far, AMD has only released two APU variants, which include 8 or 10 CUs (VEGA 8 & 10). That said, the chip with 11 Vega Compute Units computing units would be the top-tier Raven Ridge APU.

No details have been shared about the APUs that will hit the desktop, but we assume VEGA 11 will be in attendance.
