Amd confirms zen 3 will bring out a new, more powerful architecture

AMD ensures that Zen 3 will improve on Zen 2 thanks to a new architecture with higher frequencies, cores and IPC gains.

Forrest Norrod has revealed many details of what will be the next generation Zen 3 in an interview with "TheStreet", an American newspaper. According to the statements of the vice president of AMD, Zen 3 will bring specifications that will surpass the Zen 2 generation. Zen 3 will outperform Zen 2

The Zen 3 architecture will come manufactured in a 7nm + process , a design that has been completed in 2019. However, this generation will be launched in 2020 because AMD contemplate that it is the best scenario for its landing.

Thanks to AMD Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster, we learned last year that this 7nm + manufacturing process would lead to improved efficiency, along with increased processor performance. So far, EPYC Milan is one of the chips that will benefit from the Zen 3 architecture, standing out with much higher performance per watt than the Ice Lake-SP Intel Xeon .

According to the forecasts of TSMC, manufacturer of the AMD chips, the manufacturing process at 7nm + would be an advance over Zen 2 in 20% performance and 10% efficiency compared to the previous generation.

Zen 3 will be a new architecture, not a simple Zen 2 upgrade

This has been confirmed by Forrest. The vice president was asked what would be the profit of Zen 3 compared to Zen 2, and he stated that it would be a new architecture characterized by offering 15% more IPC (Instructions Per Cycle). This means that the jump from 7nm to 7nm + would not be that great, bringing higher frequencies and better performance per watt, but not so beastly.

Furthermore, AMD will follow Intel's famous Tick-Tock because it will reduce the node with the output of each new generation. At the moment, AMD has already dropped from 12nm to 7nm in one generation.
