Amd silently launches the new apu a8
Table of contents:
In what will likely seem puzzling to many, AMD is rolling out a new APU for its beloved old FM2 + socket. The A8-7680 processor.
APU A8-7680 is still manufactured with 28nm node
The processor continues to be built with the old 28nm node and is very similar to the old A8-7600, with speculation that it is also a quad-core design based on the AMD Excavator architecture.
It appears that the main difference between the two, noting that the A8-7680 specifications have yet to be formally released, is a 400 MHz increase in base frequency that takes it from 3.1 GHz on the A8-7600 to 3.5 GHz on the A8-7680. Sadly, the boost clock remains the same at 3.8 GHz that has been observed in various retail stores.
Currently only the A68 chipset set works with the new CPU, and all of the following motherboards have received BIOS updates that add support for this processor: Asus A68HM-K, A68HM-Plus, Gigabyte F2A68HM-DS2 rev1.1, F2A68HM -H rev1.1, F2A68HM-S1 rev1.1, MSI A68HM-E33-v2, ASRock FM2A68M-HD + and FM2A68M-DG3 +.
Possible A8-7680 APU Specifications:
- 4 cores / 4 threads Base frequency: 3.5 GHz / Boost: 3.8 GHz Unlocked GPU: Radeon R7 @ 1029 MHz DDR3 2133TDP 45 W 28nm nodeSocket FM2 +
