A few weeks ago we told you about the sales of AMD processors in Japan, and how this already exceeded those of Intel last month. The new data provided by BCN indicate that AMD's chip sales are accelerating, reaching 68% of total direct sales in this territory above those of Intel.

AMD achieves 68.6% of direct CPU sales in Japan and increases its stake in pre-assembled PCs

Although it has been known for some time that AMD is making progress in some territories, such as Germany, data from other regions has taken a little longer to become known. Data on both direct CPU sales and pre-assembled PCs in Japan are available through BCN, a Japanese company that tracks market share trends in Japan.

The results are quite revealing: In Japan, AMD has 68.6% of direct CPU sales during this July and 14.7% in pre-assembled in June. Ryzen 3000 processors appear to have further accelerated AMD's pace as its direct CPU sales accounted for 46.7% last June.

This is not surprising news: AMD is launching a full-scale attack on each of the Intel processor families for desktop PCs, with higher-core and cheaper processors.

Sales of pre-assembled PCs with AMD chips are still very low, but considering that last January they only represented 2% and now amount to 14.7%, the advance seems important to them. It will be interesting to see what the outlook for pre-assembled PCs will look like once July data is available in this segment.

There may be a global trend for AMD to outperform Intel in direct CPU sales year-round globally. We will keep you informed.
