AMD Polaris virtual reality with passive cooling, AMD's new graphics architecture promises to set the bar high in performance and energy efficiency. The company has shown at the Game Developers Conference the operation of a Polaris 10 card behind closed doors and has revealed new information.

Polaris 10 will be the new top of the range graphics card and will follow the trend started by the Radeon R9 Nano to arrive with a Mini-ITX form factor, something really eye-catching for a card that will be the flagship and that speaks of Polaris being really very efficient with energy consumption.

One attendee at the event has leaked that the card is capable of running the new Hitman at its highest level of graphic detail at a speed greater than 60 FPS. It is not clear if Polaris 10 will be the substitute for Fiji or Hawaii so the Sunnyvale ones could have an option with even more power stored.

The card will include various video outputs in the form of three DisplayPort 1.3 capable of handling 4K and 5K resolutions at 60 FPS with HDR, an HDMI 2.0, and a DVI.

A step below is Polaris 11, a card that will come at a lower price so it will be a much more popular option among most users and that according to Ryan Shrout of PCPerspective is capable of handling virtual reality content at 4K resolution with PASSIVE OPERATION, something that shows the enormous level of energy efficiency that Polaris can offer.

We would therefore be in front of an ideal option to build very powerful systems and with a very quiet operation, its low power consumption also makes it an excellent option for very compact laptops and desktops.
