AMD has announced the second generation Ryzen PRO processors that come with integrated Vega graphics. Lenovo and HP are the first to integrate these chips into their upcoming notebooks, which promise higher performance compared to Intel's U series.

AMD Introduces Second Generation Ryzen PRO

In total there are 3 Ryzen PRO processors announced on the day of the date, the Ryzen 7 PRO 3700U, the Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U and Ryzen 3 PRO 3300U, in addition to the Athlon PRO 300U, all with integrated graphics from the Vega series.

Specifications table

Cores Boost / base speed iGPU Graphic cores L2 + L3 cache Node
Ryzen 7 PRO 3700U 4/8 4.0 / 2.3 GHz Vega 10 6 MB 12nm
Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U 4/8 3.7 GHz / 2.1 GHz Vega 8 6 MB 12nm
Ryzen 3 PRO 3300U 4/4 3.5 GHz / 2.1 GHz Vega 6 6 MB 12nm
Athlon PRO 300U 2/4 3.3 GHz / 2.4 Vega 3 5 MB 12nm

All these chips have a low TDP of 15 W, which ensures about 12 hours of battery, according to AMD, and about 10 hours of autonomy while playing videos.

More performance than Intel U series

AMD insists on comparing the Ryzen 7 PRO 3700U and Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U processors with the i7-8650U and i5-8350U, promising 35% more performance in photo editing, 65% more performance in approximately 3D modeling and a 250% more display performance, thanks in large part to the integrated Radeon Vega graphics.

We can also notice the performance jump of the Ryzen 7 PRO 3700U compared to the previous generation (2700U) and the modest AMD PRO A12 9800B.

If we look carefully at the graph, we see that the jump compared to the previous generation would be in the order of 10 or 20%, depending on tests such as Cinebench or PCMark .

It also announces series A for the student sector

AMD also took the opportunity to present the new A-series processors for the student sector, with the A4-9120C and A6-9220C models. Some of the first laptops to integrate these chips are; HP Chromebook 11A G6, Acer Chromebook 311 and Spin 311, Lenovo 14e. The Acer TravelMate B1 and Lenovo 14w with A6 processors are also mentioned.
